Mellinger was an absolutely amazing professor. He taught math in a way that made it understandable and relevant to the real world. I'm glad I took this course as it made me actually enjoy math.

Mellinger is willing to help, but only on his schedule. He is not willing to make extra time for you outside of his office hours. He lectures at you, but will not work out the math problem on the board to show you how its done. His exams are very hard. He is not willing to answer questions in class, you must go to his office to ask any questions.

I took this course over the summer and for a summer course Mellinger made it awesome. He was easy to understand and presented the material in familiar relateable ways so even non-math majors could understand it. Great guy too, always made sure we understood the material

Great professor but tough class. Definitely a class that requires a LOT of practice but he's very helpful in answering questions and gives good reviews for exams. Exams are tough so definitely prepare well and you should be golden. Definitely not a class I'd recommend as a summer class, but I do highly recommend this professor!

Maybe that reviewer somehow caught him on a "bad day," but Dr. Mellinger is easily one of the smartest, funniest, most helpful people I have ever met. He's my advisor, and I visit him every day just to sit in his office, and chill. You don't get a professor like him often, so if you can, don't miss the opportunity. Mellinger. Is. Awesome.

Dr. Mellinger acts nice if your one of his favorites and no doubt he has teaching talent but he is actually a really arrogant guy if he likes you he will be your best friend but if for whatever reason you dont fit his mold he will talk to you as though your intelligence is decidedly below his own.

I think these people have pretty much said it all; he's AWESOME. Wakes you up in the morning. Engaging class, fun, easy-going guy, and great teacher. He's funny too. His tests and quizzes are very fair. No complaints on this one! Definitely my favorite teacher first semester. And I'm not even much of a math person -he makes calculus user- friendly.

one-on-one he makes you feel like you're his favorite. he loves his students, and it shows. he makes you feel very comfortable asking questions. he's not my advisor, but i go to him anyway before i go to my own advisor. my favorite math teacher by far. just ask him a question and you'll see!! i promise!

Dr. Mellinger is one of the best teachers I have ever had. He is very clear and organized. His tests are right on target. You will learn everything you need to know, and some fun facts on the side. He is excellent at keeping everyones attention and getting through lectures on time without feeling rushed or boring. Great professor!

Comment:

Mellinger does an awesome job teaching. He keeps the class laid back while making sure you understand the material. Every time there is an exam, he spends the whole class previous to the exam on reviewing questions that are basically on the exam. Sometimes he has some pretty corny jokes, but otherwise its a great class.

He is so sadistic and cruel sometimes. The best part is that he can take it right back!!! :) His teaching methods aren't terrific, but he's accommodating for office hours and will go though problems step by step with you if you visit him. WARNING: Will talk about discrete mathematics or geometry for hours if provoked!!
