Prof. Um was an amazing professor; she had incredible and clear insight to the Asian American experience. Not only did I learn so much about Asian American history, but I received tremendous personal growth through her knowledge, my GSIs help, and the class project.

Professor Um is sincere. She genuinely welcomed us to office hours with any comments, questions, and/or concerns. I am completely captivated by her style of teaching, and reading assignment selections. My major is DS and she has me 100x more determined to pursue my major. She knows her stuff!

Wow, Prof. Um is extremely intelligent and knowledgeable about Asiam Am. My only complaint is her lack of personality. She's unapproachable, cold, intimidating, and aloof. Definitely uses too many big words that take away from the actual materials being taught. Could have been a much more interesting class, but she makes it bland!

Amazing lecture material! I guess she holds back on her lower division courses but her upper division courses are filled with inspiring and awe-struck lectures. There was no GSI for our class and boy was she a tough grader. She makes SURE you understand the material. Not all her reading materials are necessary. Her lectures certainly are.

Extremely intelligent, has achieved much in terms of scholastic success in academia. However, lacks interpersonal skills and has cold as ice personality. Totally not personable.

Interesting readings but interview project was kind of unnecessary. Exams and projects are graded by GSI, so kind of depends if your GSI is easy or hard.

Professor Um rocks! Although the material can be a bit boring to non-Asians, as an Asian-American I thought the material was really interesting. Plus, she definetely knows what she's talking about and she has brilliant theories. Yay for Professor Um!

Terrible class. Teacher likes to use big words to compensate for lame material. I did all the readings and realized that I got jipped because everyone else only did one reading and received the exact same grade. Fell asleep through half of her lectures.

Easy class but watch out for her boring/disorganized lectures. Lectures seem to be totally unrelated to class. She tries to complicate very easy concepts with big words. I have to give her props for being interested in what she teaches though. Read Takaki's book. It's the only book you'll need.

I enjoyed the reading (it is a lot, but quick reading). Lectures were alright. Not awe inspiring or powerful, but thoughtful and informative. Midterm was cake. Final was alright too. Didn't make connections between reading and lecture well, but overall a positive experience. She seems nice.

Often late for lecture, unorganized, 75% of the course was a repeat of an intro course, barely offered any new material, got an 'A' while doing none of the reading....

Material interesing, though a bit repetitive. A lot of assigned reading, most of which you don't have to do. Lectures were sometimes confusing, and her lecture style never failed to put me to sleep. Just read Takaki's "Strangers..." and you'll a

The class overall is very repetative. The way she speaks in lectures can be confusing at times and she gives a lot of reading assignments. The class is not that hard, if you keep up with the lectures.
