Overall, he is a good guy, but not professor. MTH4410 is tough class by all means, but he doesn't even bother to make it easier. He goes over the similar problems that you can find in the book, and some FM problems too. But, his tests is a killer. Although, he let you work on the exam as long as you need it, it is not easy to solve problems.

Prof. Chiu is an excellent professor, the class however is extremely tough. there's three tests which account for 2/3 of your final grade, and one final which is 1/3. a lot of studying and textbook use, be sure to be fluent with all textbook problems and you're golden (for that test). test problems from hw problems most of the time.really great guy

At the beginning of the semester I thought I was going to hate this professor; He constantly makes cheesy jokes, and can wax poetic when talking about seemingly trivial things. However, he knows the material very well and uses his own methods (frequently more easily understandable than those of the text book) to approach difficult problems.

The material is itself very hard. 3 in class exams and final. exams are very very hard, students stayed extra 30 minutes and still were not able to finish the exam and get good grades. Exams are very different from what we did in class. When i ask questions his answers were not clear. I worked very hard and still did not get good grade. stay away!

he cares more about "illustration" than solution , which means you have to illustrate your solution other than doing the math. But what is discouraging is you think you solve the problem and you are satisfied with your answers, but the scores are much lower than you expected, because if you lose a "SUM" sign you are doing it improperly.

Very funny and helpful. Read the book and you will benefit in class. Do the HW problems and an easy B+, work a little bit harder and probably an A. Maths is all about practice. At this level(MTH 4410) you shhould know this better than others. Good to prepare for FM exam. Lots of time on exams but final is stricted to 2 hours and most difficult.

fun professor, lenient grader, helpful over e-mail. His exams r scary, but he gives u lots of time to work on them. Plus his notes supplement the textbook well; he gives new types of problems that aren't presented in the book, and he shows u multiple ways of solving some of them. doesn't put notes on bboard, tho. Not recommended for slackers

Extremely helpful. Makes math clear and understandable, and fun at times. Motivates to understand, not just to learn and cram. Do not pay attention to the bad words said about him. Those who say he is not helpful - are helpless. I remember him staying after the class, until he answered all the questions... What a man! Made me love math even more.

The exams are undoubtedly difficult, simply studying the in class sample problems will not suffice; to answer some of the test questions, you have to really know the intricate details of the topics covered. However, Professor Chiu is very lax on grading; careless mistakes are not critically penalized; calculators are permitted during exams.

He is a very nice professor but he doesn't have time to help out his students. you have to study by urself. His exams are "difficult". Theory of Interest is hard so better prepare before you take that class.

He is a very nice guy but a bad teacher. He is always ready to help but his explanations are confusing. In class he teaches one thing, gives the homework on another thing, and problems in quizzes are coming out of nowhere. This course itself is hard but he makes it even harder with his surprise problems on the quiz. If you can take another prof!

Chiu is funny in a cheesy way and is on top of his stuff, but is hard to understand when he explains things. He's not able to come down to the student's level and explain. Avoid if you can, esp if you have a job (he has quote "other students with jobs who work w/the deadlines). If you have the misfortune, get all the supplemental help you can get.

Just want to follow up on why I gave the Professor these grades: Easiness: certain questions on the 1st exam were not specifically taught or mentioned in class. Helpfulness: no review sessions or going over of homework problems. Clarity: use of slides and speeds through them; not enough time to copy down solutions; often skips steps.

The exams are difficult, but he does allow you all the time in the world to work on them; calculators are allowed, but must show steps; extra credit projects (these projects are extremely difficulty though) are given prior to exams to help boost your exam grades (as much as 6 points can be added to your exam grade if project is done correctly).
