Definitely a nice guy, very cool. A little confusing about assignments, have to present parts of the book to the class, but tests aren't ridiculously hard and it's not hard to do well, but he loves class participation

Prof. Brown gives much more work than what is expected for a 128 class. I took this class because it sounded like I wouldn't have to do much work, but you really do. My group was terrible for the project at the end too. Study your face off for each exam, as they contribute to a large portion of your grade.

One short book, three tests, and a final project is not an excessive load of work for a college class! We listened to music, watched movies, and had interesting discussions most of the time. I don't know what people are expecting when they walk into this class, but Dr. Brown is a great professor and he should be recognized for that.

The man is very nice, but he gives an upsetting amount of work and grades rather hard. Also he pretty much rambles about personal anecdotes of muscians in class, not teaching you much. His reviews explain nothing, you dont have to know stylistic qualities. if your struggling, talk to him, hes likes to help.

Doesn't have the BEST teaching approach but is entertaining nonetheless. We didn't always get to cover all the material which, was frustrating at times but overall I learned some interesting things. The tests weren't too bad as long as you study at least the night before.

Yeah... Don't expect this guy to cut you any slack should your group not give a damn about their part. I memorized his "study sheets" forward and back only to end up with a B because of a bad final project. Tread carefuly.

Nice guy but he gives a ridiculous amount of homework. Sometimes he is very unclear. I loved jazz before I took this class...now not so much. There are three exams, one paper, and one project. He is really passionate about this subject but his approach is not working.

Class is very interesting, sometimes too long, though. Unlike what some other ppl said, he is correct in his information, and anyone who thinks otherwise should get their info straight. The class is pretty easy too. I think his accent is hot.

A nice guy, but this class is almost unbearable to sit through at 1 1/2. Sadly, he thinks that all music originates from Black music and the blues and consequently a class that should cover a variety of musical genres is limited by his closed minded beliefs. Just spit back what he tells you in class

Really cool teacher who takes a serious interest in this class. He gives a decent amount of work, mostly taking notes and reading. It's stuff you don't have to do but will want come test time. The class is cool but tends to get boring and lasts about 40 minutes too long. Still a decent class though.

Music as a Social Expression. Class ends up being about how blacks influence all music and are basically kings of music. I don't pay attention and then learn it all in one night before the test. Unclear, because he slurs his speech.
