Comment:
Politics of the Global North SP2018. The class is super interesting and not hard at all. Turner is really nice. The reading for this class is a few chapters from a few books, and there are no essays only tests. He gives you a detailed study guide before each test. He's just retired too (except for teaching), so things are probably even more chill.

Professor Turner is clearly an expert in his field, and integrates a lot of insights and examples into his lectures. The exams are very fair, and readings are engaging and relevant to what we learned in class. Would definitely recommend taking his class before you graduate!

Sweet guy. Bad lecturer & professor. Says he wants to give everyone a good grade but the tests are nit-picky & graded unfairly (I got a 90 but was counted as a B+ because everyone else did well; not afraid to curves down). He gives the cumulative grades by just looking at your 3 grades and sees if there's improvement. No calculation involved

Do not take this course. The professor just read the materials. Disorganized. Destroy your GPA even if you spend a lot of time preparing prelims

Comment:
Professor Turner is an excellent lecturer since he integrates class material with current news and he is also able to propose viable solutions to current socio-economic issues. I believe that the class should be a requirement for all Cornellians since it presents an issue that has now become a major concern for developed societies (aka inequality).

Comment:
Do not take this class. Turner presents no information other than what you already know from the readings. I am inclined to agree with his views, but he provides no evidence to support them. If you value your time and are interested in learning, avoid any of turners Classes. On the other hand, his research is great!

One of the best classes I took at Cornell. Prof. Turner is a great teacher, relates well to his students, and keeps the class material interesting and relevant to current affairs and global politics. He has real world experience as a labor activist plus he has some of the best TAs at ILR. Highly recommended!

Great professor interesting course and incredibly helpful when approached. Definitely has his own opinions on the subject, but so does every other decent political economy professor.

Barely payed attention in class but learned so much doing the readings to prepare for the prelim/final. It was one of the best classes I have ever taken because the course material is so relevant to what is going on in current politics. But I have to say that his lectures were not hugely helpful. The class is simply too large for this kind of study

Comment:
Terrible and biased. All readings of relative complexity were ignored or dumbed down. This class was easier than some classes I have taken in high school. I was frustrated by his personal bias, especially that he chose to inject so much of it into lecture. I actually agreed with what his stance, but his paltry analysis of issues was frustrating.

Global North is a great class, but not one to take if you really want to be pushed or challenged. That having been said, I learned quite a bit about current events and conflicts - Turner does an excellent job of putting it all into context and injecting his own experience into lecture. Absolutely take it, but don't expect to have your mind blown.

This prof. is awesome. He is by far my favorite professor. He got me so excited about politics of the Global North, which, to be honest, I wasn't that interested in before. He seems like he really knows what he's talking about too.

This professor is pretty much the most amazing professor I've ever had. He is enthusiastic, intelligent and is obviously very dedicated to teaching. His class was definitely not easy, but it was 100% worth it. I've probably learned more in this class than in 5 of my other classes combined. Take this class before you graduate!!!

Excellent professor. For summer session, it was two 3-page papers. The final was to answer one of questions which we were given previously.

It's easy compared to any government class and you actually learn something about international institutions and the foundations of many modern conflicts. Prof is nice and responsive to student input. Not one of the most mind-blowing classes you'll ever take, but worth it.
