She challenges and requires you to approach learning from a different angle in order to prepare you for the real world. most professors approach teaching pretty much the same way - structured. She throws a lot at you, but shes preparing you for your career. You need to figure out how to get it done and think on your feet, this isnt hs anymore

I just don't get how a school can not care about their students. She's been receiving terrible feedback for years and nobody does anything. I seriously have not learned anything. She does not grade anything. She just thinks at the end of the semester and decides what grade you receive. The admin wont do anything. It is truly heartbreaking .

This is the worst professor I have ever had to deal with. She is extremely unclear and doesn't teach you anything. She expects you to read her mind and expects you to know when/what to do. When you ask for help, she acts as if you're an idiot and makes it clear you are bothering her for help. She is terrible. Throws random things at you daily

If throwing a TON of assignments together without giving much instruction and saying "here you go good luck!" was considered teaching she would be getting 5's across the board. Alas that is not how a effective teacher goes about teaching a class

By far the worst class I've taken. She just piles on busy-work that at times makes you question why you have to even do it. No clarity or organization at all. I am not afraid of doing a lot of work, especially for a grad class, but this was totally excessive, not to mention that it was a summer class and crammed into 5 weeks. Terrible "teacher"

I actually considered dropping out of MSMC because Dr. Smirnova was that ridiculous. It is essentially an online course that doesn't have directions. I went in to ask for clarity on an assignment and she literally said "Well, when I came to America from Russia I had to learn by myself". Thanks for the help.. not! Stressful, confusing, unorganized.

There was VERY little clarity on assignments or due dates. Some weeks we would have 3 or 4 different assignments to do, on top of fieldwork and unit plans. EVERYTHING was online. I put so much effort into creating my unit plan, and she gave very little feedback on it. I did learn about some useful online teaching tools, but that's about it.

I have to give her this, she is very nice. But I did not learn anything from the course. I felt unprepared for my fieldwork and very confused about assignments. She never explained her assignments or when they were due. I know college professors are not supposed to baby us, but it would have been nice to know when important things needed to be done

We did NOTHING in this class. I can honestly say I didn't learn a single thing. My class constantly complained to the head of the dept. and the Dean about her. She never made anything clear and then gave attitude if you asked a question. I will NEVER take her again.

I took a grad class with her, Literacy and technology. I heard she was difficult so I was skeptical, I actually loved the class, it pushed me to learn how to do things on my own, technology wise. I got an "A". I learned how to use web 3.0 tools and xtranormal, smilebox photo story, skype, the list goes on...Do the work & you'll be fine.

I took Dr. Smirnova for Basics of Curricular PLanning and it was a nightmare! Her assignments are as numerous as they are impossible to decipher. She also uses Moodle for just about everything. For a teacher who is teaching a planning class she had ho time management and frequently ran over call times. Good luck with this nut!

I had Dr. S. for Teaching with Technology and I am very happy for it. Yes, she does assign tons of work and sometimes she might be difficult to understand, but she is always available for questions which made it easier for me. She also does recognize any effort you will put in.To make her classes productive, make an effort and always ask questions

This professor was the only one who truly challenged me at MSMC. Her classes are tough, but so is the real world of teaching. A great person with tremendous drive and willingness to help in any way. Her world experience is nonpareil in our teaching program.

Dr.S really utilizes Web Ct so get very familiar with it! She is hard to follow and gives lots of work but she is a great person. She will work with you and help if you need it, just ask. I found her to be hard to follow but her door is always open.
