This class is all lectures and papers. Yup! Papers! If youre trying to get an easy A this might not be the class for you. You have to attend concerts and do a lot of essays. I took her once a week on Friday morning for 3 hours!!! Lectures were 3hours long. Shes a really nice person but those lectures would put me to sleep....

Dr. Martin was amazing. I took her over the summer for the condensed 6-week session; all in one week, we had 1 listening quiz regarding whichever musical era you are studying and 1 chapter/unit test for the whole era. She assigns 2 papers at the beginning of the session to be turned in at the end, so stay on top of those and always do the work!

Awesome professor! I typically am not a fan of music but she made it much more entertaining. Her notes are very helpful when it comes to the tests (I got A's on all of them, including the final). It was very enjoyable and I recommend taking her!

Comment:

Easy class. Just take note of what she specifically mentions in class and you should do good on the exams. Make sure to do the extra cred cuz it acts like a cushion for your grade. I only had to get 40/100 on the final to get an A. Dont skip class and take decent notes. Her explanations are clear and straight forward.

Ms. Martin is a very laid back prof who always jokes around in class. She also gives TONS of opportunities for extra credit! It is honestly an easy class if you just pay attention. Online quizzes for the chapters she goes over in class, 2 essays based on 2 concerts you have to attend, 4 test, and 1 final exam. She's an easy grader though ;)

She's very outgoing and happy most of the time. And you just take notes the whole class, and listen to some songs.. Her tests are easy and it's all from your notes. She makes you go to concerts which is worth a lot of your grade.. And no need for textbooks! If you want an easy A take her!

i had her for winter 09 term and she was such a nice professor. as long as you go to class and do all the listenings and stuff you'll end up with an A. very very very chill. I think this class was one of the class to knock off IGETC requirement for fine arts. get an easy A while doing it! take her if u can!

Who needs the book when you have the class notes and youtube? lol i never bought the book, but shouldve to get that A. You gotta take notes, and attend, otherwise you'll be lost. I probably failed each test but made it up by doing tones of extra credit, take advantage of it and you'll be fine. The final was open note for us. AWESOME teacher too!

She loves what she teaches. gives tons of extra credit and pop quizes that you can use your notes on. Her lecture notes are all you need, i barley used the book. I love her style if i was a music major she would be my first choice as teacher.

The last comment is wrong - you do need to buy the book & it comes w/CDs. Prof Martin is a fun person, jokes all the time, & is always in a good mood. The work is easy to do & you'll be surprised by how much of the material you already know/music you've heard in popular culture.

NO TEXTBOOK REQUIRED. attendance is crucial since all the tests are based on every day notes. study guides are helpful, just study what's on there. Martin tells you to listen to the CD in your textbook, but just go to youtube, study for listening part of the test. Tests are all multiple choice. For the last 2 tests, you can bring note cards.

Good class. The tests are pretty much based on the notes she gives you in class, so you should go and take notes. You don't really need the book, except there's an extra credit listening assn at the end of the semester. There are at least 3 E.C. opportunitites at the end of the semester, so there's no reason you shouldn't get an A.

Dr. Martin is really easy. i loved this class. you need the text book because of the music. I didnt have one and got an A but it was a lot of strain to keep going to the library to study. she gives u all info necessary for tests. she's funny (in a weird sort of way) and she sings and plays piano so she makes learning the pieces very interesting.

i think she made her class way too technical and hard for a music class. her tests are majorly hard if you do not pay attention but even with the notes-its still hard because she asks so much for you remember and the listening parts of her tests are hard too. I never imagined that taking this class was going to be difficult.

Dr. Martin is the best music prof. at ElCo. She makes students to love music. Because of her, I now listen to classical music. She loves teaching and uses absolutely the best materials she can find toward teaching. Yes, she is the easiest music prof. She throws so many e.c. that you should give up transferring if you don't get an A in her class.

Dr. Martin is so cool and really funny. She shows us cartoons and puts on popular songs that we listen to today as examples. Makes very good notes, but expect a few typos here and there. She expects us to sing in class, so lipsync if you don't feel like singing. She says yay a lot. Take her if you can!
