Her lectures were all over the place & hard to follow. She frequently went on tangents unrelated to the material. She reads from her notes & the assigned book at the same time, so make sure you know which one she's referring to. Attendance is really important for this class, not only for a participation grade, but so you understand the material.

Super sweet professor, but she rarely gives out A grades, meaning you have to go above and beyond what is expected of you. Attend all lectures, take notes from the board, and RECORD all lectures. First 2 exams are essay format and in-class, and last 2 are take-home min. 5 page papers. She gives you a week to do them

She is a good professor, but you have to pay attention to her lectkres and TAKE NOTES on what she says. She emphasizes important stuff but write as much as you can. The first two exams are in-class and you cant use notes. Make sure you attend all lectures if you want to get a good grade.

Prof. Austin was very sweet to all her students! You take a lot of notes which if you study your notes you will make it out ok. The first exam was the easiest so take advantage of it and get a nice grade as the last 2 exams can be hard. She is very knowledgeable about this subject which it shows in lectures as she uses higher end philosophy vocab

I think her age separates her language from youthful language. She does a bad job of answering questions in class (don't bother asking) and she doesn't seem to translate readings to understandable concepts. However, I think she really knows her stuff, but just has a hard time portraying the information. Only tests/essays, no quizzes.

Prof. Austin is amazing! Everything she says in lecture is what she puts on the test. She presents the material with a lot of enthusiasm, it is clear this is what she has dedicated her life to. The class is the effort that you put in, she gives you everything you need to get an A in her class. She cares and is available after class if you need her.

This isn't your typical seminar class with easy to follow powerpoint slides. This class consists of lectures that are hard to follow (often resulting in tangents) about stale material coupled with tough tests and harsh grading. Though Prof. Austin is knowledgable, her teaching style is more suited for a 300/400 level class, not a 101 class.

I honestly took this class expecting an easy A. THIS ISN'T THE CASE. Class consists of her long tangents (can't really call them lectures) where she uses her own vocabulary and scribbles ancient symbols on the board. Half of the time the class has no idea what she is talking about, and that's clearly reflected in exam scores. Run.

I don't understand how her class is hard at all. All I needed to do was attend class because it was mandatory, copy her notes on the board and listen to the lecture. Two of the exams are in class and the other two were take home essays. I got an A in the class without doing the EXTRA CREDIT. There is a lot of reading.

Prof. Austin runs a challenging course with imposing material and imposing essays on that material, especially for freshmen. She clearly prefers to lecture; every class period is dead silent as she goes over the material. That said, you will learn a lot if you bother to keep up. Don't take the class with the expectation you can skate through it.

I think this teacher just feels so passionate about her subjects that she does ramble. She loves her vocabulary. You honestly need to understand the exams. Considering the exams are all essays you need to know how to respond to the questions and answer all components of it. You will do okay. This semester she gave us extra credit!

Difficult class- take plenty of notes and keep up on the readings. Ms Austin is strict and sometimes hard to follow but she is very wise and quirky and I enjoyed her lectures. no eating and no electronics and attendance is mandatory to your grade

Ok do not be fooled at that fact that this is a 100 level class, she teaches this class as a 300+ class. The material IS very interesting but I honestly taught myself all the material. Her lectures are very hard to follow and she goes off many tangents. She is friendly though and extremely knowledgeable. Be prepared for a tough class.

bad bad bad bad bad. she makes up words and i barley could understand what she was saying or what she was trying to teach. This was an elective so unless you're super into philosophy i suggest if you don't have to take it then don'.

Many students commented having trouble keeping up with her lectures, hence my lower clarity rating. And I got the only A, so I felt obligated to rate her easiness down a notch also. If you don't like or understand philosophy, I suggest taking another class. Overall she is an insightful professor and does a great job conveying it.

This Professor taught this 101 class more as if it should have been a 300+ level class. Very extensive vocabulary used and goes off on many tangents. Fairly organized but had a strange way of communicating - it was easy to get lost some times. Keep an open mind about what she says! VERY LITTLE discussion. "A" for knowledge, "C" for teaching.

oh man... very very difficult. take this class with a friend. i'm writing out my final exam right now (the last 2 tests are take home) and this crap is hard. she is very liberal and anti-Christian. if you dont understand something you can only reach her during class time. and since grading is based off her lectures, you cant outsource any info

Hers is a very difficult class but it's rewarding to do well. The most important things to do are keep up on the reading and take notes. The tests will be aced or not based on your understanding of her lectures. Don't expect much discussion the class is strictly lecture. That said, she's very passionate about philosophy and makes herself available.

This class was extremely difficult. The tests weren't based on the books, they were based on HER interpretation of the books. You have to listen closely although half of the things she says don't make sense. I would find another teacher for this class if you're looking for a fun and discussion-oriented class.
