Took her online course and it was a disaster. She didn't respond to emails and the assignment list didn't match with what was due. First F at WCC and I now hate English, which was a strong subject for me.

Comment:

Ms Holder is incredibly awesome and funny. But you do need to make an effort in her class. Strangely enough, if you can basically up play feminism then you're good to go. She really digs for deep thoughts in her quizzes though but you can't just bs you way through your answer, make sure you're still answering the main question at hand.

She was nice. Not much work and the little work we had was pretty easy. Very little book use. But if you're not a social person then you might not want to take the class. She enjoys talking to and interacting with everyone.

Love how the classes are organized! The folders are easy to follow, if you keep up with your assignment sheet. She won't take late assignments, but you shouldn't have late ones if you keep your assignment sheet up to date. Love her!

She gives very vague and unclear directions, and sometimes the instructions aren't even in the assignment folder, but sent through email. There aren't a lot of papers, just two easy research papers with a few smaller essays as well. Took her almost two months to grade first research paper. Communication through email was poor. Would not recommend.

Took American Lit I and II with her. One of the worst teachers I had at WCC. Tests were inconsistent and vague, assignments were useless (we made paper frogs to illustrate a Mark Twain story), and she refused to listen to student concerns. Don't take her if you value intelligent discussion of the material and a teacher who listens to your concerns.

Took class online. Doesn't grade too harshly except on mid-term and final essays. Poor communication. Took her two months to return first major essay. Impossible to calculate your grade because you usually have 5+ assignments that haven't been graded for weeks. I don't recommend.

Comment:

Martha is one of the best professors I've ever had. Taking the class with her in person is very beneficial especially if you love learning and laughing, she makes funny jokes and has a deep sense of understanding. I also joined the newspaper with her and she is simply the best professor I've had, try her class out, it's great!

Took her literature class. Was very helpful and went out of her way to get us through this class. She also got me on with the newspaper and is helping me with a scholarship. Ms Holder changed my life. :)

Wonderful teacher. Yea difficult but willing to work with students. I don't make A's in English and yet I made an A in Ms. Holder's class. Pay attention and participate in class. Recommend her to all!!!

Excellent knowledge of her subject, well prepared for classes, easy to get help from. Requires you do the assigned work but provides guidance if you ask her. Never failed to answer any email or question I had. But don't take if you expect to just slide by without putting in the assigned work.

I made the big mistake of taking her online during the summer. Dont ever do it. She doesnt email back well and you dont get your papers back for weeks. I made mistakes on all of my papers that could have been corrected but I was unaware of it. Everyone I spoke with had the same problems from her. She is a nice lady if you take it in class.
