Comment:
I took from Prof Carle around 1970. I got an A. There weren't many who did. My kind of course. No homework, no papers. Just tests. I liked the guy a lot. We got along great. Not a prof for slackers or suck ups.

One of, if not the best undergrad professors I had. Tough, but when I went to Cal State, I already knew much of what I needed to excel in upper division econ.

Spencer Carle was one of my first Instructors at GWC almost 30 years ago. At the time, I felt he was tricky. Yet his approach is to teach you to dig deeper on your own and WORK for a greater understanding of Econ. I went to a Major University (BA) and MBA. I was proud of a B or B+ rather and still have my class notes.I Recommend & no wimps allowed.

Studied Econ under him in the fall of 1977 and Spring of 1978. By far, the best two college classes I ever had. Very demanding ... well worth the investment. All subsequent ECON classes I had (majored in ECON at CSUF) were easy by comparison.

It is a pretty difficult class and if you want to pass the exams you either have to show up to class or read the book. He suggest you do problems from the book which help alot. Bring a recorder if you learn mostly from lecture because sometimes you may miss something he says.

Comment:
The hardest class i have ever taken. He bases the grade on 5 tests, the lowest of which he drops. There are word problems in addition to the scantron part of the test you have to work out in a blue book. He is very knowledgeable, but very tough. Reading the text helps a little. Mandatory attendance if you actually want to pass the class. Good luck!

This class was pretty hard. The only points are from 4 tests, one of which is dropped. So it's your only chance. I always went to class, but still only got a B. Should have read the book more. He can be funny, but the tests are much harder than what he talks about in class.

The pace of this class was much too fast for an introductory micro-Econ class. It was ridiculously difficult for a lot of the students in my class (myself included)...most of them dropped by the end. Carle doesn't care for his students and his exams are VERY tricky. Be Warned. I'm so lucky to have gotten into UCLA after taking this class.

Hard to follow and very dry class, No Study guides, homework, or quizzes. Exams are hard and dont go well with was is disused in class or in the book. You might want to bring a recorder he talks and moves really fast.

I love Prof. Carle. He might not be the best teacher I've had but he's definitely the most awesome one. Love his lectures. The structure of the class made it very hard to get an A, but it is not impossible. You NEED to work hard for this class. Read the text AFTER lecture and focus on the sections mentioned in class. Do all the quizzes and practice

very smart BUT horrible teacher! He can not teach. If it were not for his ten year there is not a chance he would still have a job. his teaching method is all about vomiting facts without teaching them. he also makes several comments on here to sway his popular vote!!

READ EACH AND EVERY COMMENT!!! It's all true! do not be fooled that 3 exams, no essays, no attendance, etc means its cake cuz THIS CLASS IS IMPOSSIBLE!!! Go ahead-- try proving me wrong. bring a tape recorder, heck, hire a court reporter to take notes= it isn't on the exam or book. Thanks to this professor, I am taking Macro at OCC.

Great lectures-he used many examples that illustrated the topics we were learning. However, if your test-taking skills are poor, then prepare to struggle greatly, as it's pretty hard to study for them unless you take thorough notes. The tests don't use the book much, and all you really have to study is a syllabus he gives at the beginning.

Took Micro and Macro from him at the same time. A lot of work, material is often confusing, but he always answers questions. Tests are difficult, but if you read the text and take good notes, there is no reason why you can't pass. He also has a unique sense of humor and tries to make class as painless as possible. But, hard subject = hard class!

Thevaliddifficultyinthis classisthathistestsare incomprehensibly written:four people tied for 96% on on the first exam without anyone getting higher. The concepts tested for are not very advanced, however the exams are what I would call malicious.Multiple choice test taking skills, and strong reading comprehension are thus crucial.Takeyourtimeontests

i don't think university classes would as hard as his class.. he is by far the worst teacher at gwc if you want to fail take him... i have to admit you would learn a lot in his class, but it would not be on the exams, so don't waste your money and time by taking this class..

Had Mr.Carle about 30 years ago It was awful-but now I have had a long business career and working on an advanced business degree- and his class came back to my memory. He/class was hard and still do not 100% agree with his teaching methods but I think if his job was to prepare me/us he did that! Hang in there fellow alums!

I took both 180 and 185 from him, he is definitely not an easy professor, but then his exams and essay really prepare you to a higher institution (just like someone here said), essays helps your critical thinking, multiple choice questions can be tricky, but then it really challages you to learn. I got a B in both courses and I'm quite satisfied d

Everyone complains about this teacher and his essay tests but after moving from golden west to a cal state just like Carle said his class was the only one that prepared me for university classes. Yes, its a lot of work, but he is a good teacher. I put a lot of effort into this class but i could have tryed a lot harder and i still got a b.
