Turned an awesome subject into a right snooze-fest. His monotone voice drags on for what seems like hours and is essentially a constant criticism on Western Art Historians for an entire term. Was so glad to be done with this course. Although super boring, it was pretty easy and there were no exams which was a plus.

There is no question that Marv is well informed and interested in the material. the course is more of a "defence of 3rd world cultures." The lectures tend to have a negative tone as a result and his monotone voice doesn't help. Although this is an important and interesting aspect of Art History, it focuses too much on this area for my taste.

This was THAT college course that made me realize why I was in university. It opened my eyes and changed my worldview. I would recommend this class to anyone interesting in Indigenous studies, Latin America, ethnic/racial relations, etc. Marv is inspiring and his dedication is infectious, this class is not a GPA booster and is not for the lazy.

Honestly, Cohodas and French taught LAST 100 in a way that changed my entire perspective on everything. It was THAT college course my first year that made me realize why I was in university. I feel like it opened my eyes and I would recommend this class to anyone interesting in Indigenous studies, Latin America, ethnic/racial relations, etc.

Marvin was a truly inspiring professor and certainly among my favourites from first year. His passion for non-Western cultures was infectious and broadened my outlook in many ways. Pay attention in lecture and the quizzes become second nature; he posts all the lecture material online, so there's no risk of missing out.

very knowledgeable and knows what he's teaching. Except that he tries to give too much to the students. ppts are not that clear and organized. It is very hard to get a high mark if you're not really really into art history. I tried really really hard and friggin loved the course but got an A-. Makes sure to bring a laptop. he goes really fast!

Great Prof.! if you attend all the lectures you will be fine. You learn a lot of interesting non-western art and culture. He is a bit monotone but the things he said was interesting enough that you can pay attention. Marv is definitely really knowledgeable but he is a tough marker.

Definitely regret taking this course. Thought he was okay at first, but after the drop out date things changed. The questions he asked on quizzes were really confusing. And I think he just wants everyone to spout back his great wisdom, and when you don't, he gives you a lousy mark. Oh, well, lesson learned.

Like someone else mentioned, he marks easy before the drop dates, then marks very tough for the rest of the term. Basically you have to note down everything he says in class, and repeat it word for word to get marks. Not much learning, very stressful class.

I want to warn everyone that Cohodas is one of those bait-and-switch professors. He's an easy marker before the drop out date and a hard marker afterwards.

Lectures contain a lot of information within such a short time. He posts the audio online and you will need to relisten to it if you want to do well on the quizzes, which takes a lot of work to prepare for. Challenging but interesting.

Professor Cohodas is great! Although, I can understand some of the comments here - his voice is slightly on the monotonous side, and he does recite a lot of information at once, but it's definitely possible to do well if you have half a brain! No exams, just bi-weekly quizzes and a paper each term. One of my favourites classes!

Although it was clear that Marv was passionate about the subject, he was unable to pass that enthusiasm on to me. I was interested in the subject matter, but the way in which it was presented came across and confusing and boring. He sees the information as straight forward, but forgets that he's been studying it for years and it's our first taste.

At first, I really didn't enjoy Professor Cohodas. He managed to make what should have been interesting lectures dull and hard to follow. I struggled with most of his bi-weekly quizzes (quite challenging), but managed to pull off a 96 for my term paper (which he personally marked). Needless to say, I liked him by the end!

Marv challenges his students to understand pretty basic concepts around colonialism and indigenous oppression. He can be a bit difficult to follow during lecture, but will record the lecture in order to make it easier for students to review. Not for the lazy student looking for a GPA boost.

Nice guy. Obviously passionate as hell about what he teaches. But he's a pretty terrible prof. Frankly I hated this class (although the first term, taught by Dr. Ryan, was wonderful.) Avoid if you can.
