This is definitely a class that you want to take online. I took it in the summer and I got an A only because the exams were online. His lectures were great and I got lucky by having a nice group for the social experiment projects. The tests are really detailed and it helps having experience from other classes before taking this one...

He didn't do the typical 3-4 tests, instead it's 5-ish quizzes. The work load should contain: 5-6 Articles 12-26 Pages in length containing 1-3 studies, 30-40 textbook pages, lecture notes, 1 video and 1 podcast for each Quiz. They're long with incredibly specific questions. It's very difficult. Group Projects graded by his TA. Ours graded HARD

The exams that he calls "quizzes" are insane. There is too much information for every quiz that it is honestly impossible to remember everything. You will need to not only study lecture slides but also watch videos, read articles, and read the textbook. You'll read 50 page article and the quiz will ask 1 irrelevant question on it. Do not take him.

He is ok. His lectures are interesting but he'll give you a 30 page article just to ask you one test question on it. Lots of reading and material for the the tests to the point where its impossible to study all of it. Group projects are never fun but at least they were graded very easy. However, the tests are worth far too much.

Yes, the multiple lengthy journal articles will make you want to scream, but my biggest gripe are the 2 group papers. 3-4 people to write 900 words w/ NO rubric to follow. We followed the directions initially given, made corrections based on GTA feedback & still couldn't get an A. I WAS excited about this class & now I'm so glad it's over!

This prof seems like a genuinely nice guy, but wow are his tests specific. There is so much memorization of scholarly articles on top of the lecture material from the powerpoints required, just to be tested on extremely specific and unclearly worded questions. You really need to read everything for this class - it's not impossible but not nec. easy

Dr. Chin is a man you can definitely work with, however, as an A/B student I'm disappointed to confess I got a hard-earned C. One's grade is based off a few, yet difficult material - lengthy scholarly articles, lengthy reviews, unclear written 50 question tests (50 min.), group project essays (4 random individuals, 1 paper). I wouldn't recommend.

Everyone says his exams are so hard, but then you already know you need to be prepared. They are not that hard if you just make sure to pay attention to the details of the experiments. You don't even have to take the final exam if you took all 5 quizzes which is so helpful. Group papers are easy.

Professor Chin offers extra credit assignments that do help, but his exams are ridiculous. Get ready to read in-depth academic journals and articles and to be tested on those heavily. Lecture is okay, it's just that the exams are just so hard. I'm typically an A/B student, but this professor was so hard that I got a C. Would not recommend.

I loved Dr. Chin! The class material was not too difficult if you did your part and kept up with reading the textbook and articles. Those who are giving horrible feedback are probably the same people who hardly picked up the book or went to reviews. If you're a psych major, this is a normal class. If not, I can see where it may be more difficult.

I literally made an account so I could write this. His class absolutely sucked. He talks in circles so everything's pretty unclear. All he does is read off powerpoints and rambles. Other than tests (5-6), there are group papers. Yes. Group. Papers. Four people to write a page and a half with no rubric so you don't know what he's actually grading.

Dr. Chin isnt the best at explaining things in my opinion and he talks kind of fast so I end up zoning out and going home to teach myself the material. We took 9 quizzes and theres a final but its optional unless you missed a quiz. I wouldnt recommend him for research methods maybe another class wouldnt be as bad.

Read the reviews and decided I could do the class. Let me tell you, that was my 1st mistake. The quizzes are worth so many points and they focus on the tiny, irrelevant details that nobody would remember. He never answers emails, the lecture content is vague, and the group projects are graded so harshly. Take this class online or with someone else

He is a very nice guy but I hated this class. The class I was the most excited for turned out to stress me out the most. 5 quizzes are 60% of your grade and they are HARD. Not only do you have to study the lecture material but there is also articles, podcasts, the textbook, and studies. 2 group projects, 5 quizzes, and the final (ec is offered).

Professor Chin is nice, but its the teaching style. Most of it is just a lot of reading from the text books and articles, but I shouldn't have to read so much to "learn". The professor should change the way he lectures and not rely so much on articles and textbooks. Teachers should teach. The only good thing is that there is extra credit.

Professor Chin is a really nice teacher. If you are disciplined, you will do great in this course -if you like to "finesse" courses, this isn't the class for you. He's very understanding, so if you have any problems within your group he will make sure you get your work's worth. Exams are a breeze if you do the required readings and attend lecture!!

He is kind of a boring lecturer but you have to go to class to understand, he has slides but goes into more detail in person. Read the textbook modules and ALL the assigned articles and do the study guides for all the quizzes because it helps so much and will be much easier to study for the final exam (if you choose to take it).

His lectures are interesting in a way; however, very heavy lectures. You must read the articles and book because some of his questions are on the quizzes. There are only two group projects, super easy. Study at least a week or two before the test. . Remember every little detail about the case studies and he will give examples. Overall, average.
