I don't know how kids who've never taken calculus passed this class. His lectures are all over the place and are loosely related to the concepts (it's a jazz piece, not a classical piece of music, as he once said). So confusing. Study on your own. And do the homework, the tests are a direct copy of the homework. Study on your own. You'll be fine.

Such a caring professor. Although his lectures may be a little disorganized, he always emphasizes the main concepts which I think is fair. The tests aren't too bad either.

His lectures are all over the place. They don't correlate with the homework at all. The online homework is almost always put in wrong so you never know if you're doing it right or wrong. He also makes his tests sort of whack, the problems he comes up with on his own are weirdly explained and make no sense. My advice is not to take him.

Prof. Richey is very kind and truly cares for his students. However, I really didn't learn a whole lot from him. His lectures are all over the place, which made it hard to follow his line of thought. I am a very organized person, so I love clear powerpoint lectures. If you learn the same way, I would strongly suggest a different prof.

This professor was all around mediocre. Other than picking on the students in the class that did not understand the material, he makes it difficult to develop your own way of solving problems, designating his way as the "right way" and docking you points when you get the CORRECT answer but not how he wanted you to. Don't do it. Save yourself.

Richey is a great professor! His style of lecture/teaching is something to get used to at first, but you'll learn a lot from him! He likes to focus on just the fundamental concepts within calc rather than be super picky. Don't be afraid to go into his office hours and ask for help too, he is a great guy!

A+ teacher. He is super enthusiastic about math & it inspired me to continue taking math classes at St. Olaf. His tests are fair and reflex the in-class worksheets. Go to his office hours -- he is inspirational and gives good life advice. To study for exams, re-do the homework, particularly the worksheets! I could not recommend this class more.

One of my favorite Professors of all time! He's super enthusiastic and passionate and makes even boring concepts interesting. His teaching style is a bit sporadic, but that keeps things exciting! I loved every minute of his class and highly recommend him as a Professor!

I was all around confused about this prof. Hes funny and helpful but his teaching method is wacky and all over the place. Many times he assumes that everything is easy and so won't explain some topics at all.

Professor Richey is just plain awesome. I had him for ERA (which is not an easy subject to wrap your mind around). His exams are fair (usually long take-home exams) and passing his quizzes only requires keeping up with the reading. He is very good at explaining the complex 'math lingo,' and is always eager to help during class and office hours.

Easiest class I have ever taken at St. Olaf. All the tests were take home, including the final. The calc labs sort of sucked, but he tried to make them interesting. He is the absolute nicest guy too. He got to know everybody in the class (and it's a big class too!) and was just really a lot of fun. I would definitely recommend this class.

He was an awesome prof if you actually go in and talk with him. If you show dedication, you will pull at least a C. You just need to show that you care about the class, no matter if you like Calculus or not.
