Comment:
The instructor has the worst handwriting ever. Hard to argue with things while you clear your point. He is really trying to give you more information and guidance but it overwhelmed you some time when that reading material is not well organized. So trying to understand what he wants in the hw is harder the hw itself.

He is an alright teacher. He can seem mean, but he is always fair. All his exam questions are very similar to ones he asked either in homework or in quizzes. There is a participation component to your grade, 10%. He is very tough on this, like not using the discussion board will knock you 2% off your total, so be sure to participate in everything.

I will start off by saying he may be the most pretentious professor I have had. Though slightly condescending, he does give you exactly the information you need. Homeworks ar every long and do not help you on exams (besides the first problems on homework). You need to be familiar with Matlab.

His lectures are really boring, most of the class are just on their phones. He doesn't speak loudly so it is hard to hear him. He doesn't explain the homework that well. He will do practice problems in class, but the homework is 10 times harder. The exams are not bad if you do the homework! Would not take again.

Attendance wasn't mandatory, but he did give pop quizzes. Most of them were to be done by yourself, but some were group quizzes. Each one was one or two problems, and they were always exact homework problems. His handwriting is terrible, but he does post every lecture to BlackBoard. His exams are very easy, and the book is pretty helpful.

Would be a better teacher for a smaller class (not 50+). Find the book he takes his homework from - the class will make more sense. Lectures heavily on how equations are derived and some theory, keeps the class discipline neutral but it left me with little understanding of applications. Overall a decent teacher, but not exceptional for this class.

Overall grading is fair. Exams and quizzes are similar to homework. Go to class since he gives out scheduled quizzes and group pop quizzes. He drops quite a few homeworks and quizzes. Nice guy, but lectures were a bit hard to understand/boring at times. Likes to mention how linear algebra is connected to this class.

His lectures are difficult to understand because he mostly explains using variables. Luckily, he gives examples afterward. Make sure you memorize important theorems because he often asks you to state a theorem on an exam.He takes off a point or two for participation if you don't go to office hours. He gives plenty of partial credit on tests.

He came off a bit holier than thou in the beginning of the semester, but he warmed up as time went on. He lays out all the material you need to know in his outlines (which are on a tablet PC and posted online), and only uses the book for problem sets. He emphasizes real-life skills, and skips the filler material in the book.

This guy's the man. Lectures are well prepared and very helpful on hwks. Doesn't do things out of the book, but teaches based on how it is out in the real world. Gives very thought provoking assignments. And you better be clear with what you are putting down, but it's for your benefit. The cons? Poor handwriting and doesn't review well, thats it

Covers examples on how to do the homework in class. The test questions are pulled from the homework. He posts his lecture notes on blackboard but has very poor handwriting. Gives group pop quizzes at least once a week. Very nice guy though.

Homework is from the expensive ass text... He has horrible hand writing. I can hardly hear him in class. All of my understanding of linear algebra has been gotten from the text.. and on tests he is in love with word problems.. the tests are about 6 problems and 2 or 3 will be word problems. So definitions are good to know with him

I had Gobbert for 621 and 627. Those two classes were some of the hardest I've ever taken, but I got so much out of them. He requires rigor on the homeworks, that we state precisely what we're assuming and which steps we took in solving problems. Sharp professor, and he's concerned with how well we do after we graduate, not just in his class.

He's actually very helpful and gives a lot of opportunities to do well in the class. Just make sure to take all the quizzes and exam. I missed a lot of quizess and did ok in the exams. I thought I was getting a C, but I got a B. Just talk to him and show him you're making an effort in the class.

Don't skip class. POST ON THE DISCUSSION BOARD & view his online examples! Talk to him 2-3x in his office during the semester for clarification. He puts an incredible amount of effort into the course and is very interested in the topic. He doesn't review well for exams but I got Cs, Ds, and Fs on all his tests and still got a B in the course.

Tends to confuse and complicate topics. Assumes too much. Expects that students are at his level and are able to read his mind. Arrogant. However approachable
