Great professor. Although reading load was a lot at time the readings he chose were all really relevant and Dr Eswaran does a great job in breaking down complex econ articles in a way that is easy to understand. His exams were also fair based on assignment questions and what he covered in class; he does not troll with random curveballs on exams

I really like his style of lecture, he is basically telling things gradually and logically. It makes sense and it is interesting on the other hand. He is not a high maker but not too mean if you really had read textbook.

His style is more of a survey of topics through reading and discussing papers. Theory and methodology are important, math not so much but being able to replicate models is also key. Attendance is mandatory because he parses the material from the papers very well and his simplified versions of the models is what is tested(it's ok to not read papers)

Women in the economy is a very interesting course. You will learn a lot and it is a fun class. No books so attendance is mandatory for note taking. WARNING: if you value your GPA DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS!! Marking on exams is very harsh and prof looks for very specific answers. Midterm avg -56%. Final avg-64% which is VERY LOW. You have been warned!!

He definitely knows his economics and is an engaging lecturer. It is crucial to attend class since his notes are written on the board, but he is easy to follow and I feel like I'm actually learning so much in this course. Only concern is how hard he marks. Class average on midterm = 56% and it's difficult to get a good mark.

Comment:
First part of the course is rather dry (mostly of stats). Second part focuses on power within marriage, abortion and fertility: GREAT! Taught from an economics perspective, not a feminist one per se. Not a math based course. Basic econ background suffices. Readings: +-80 pages/wk. Good prof., but gets confrontational when his ideas are questioned.

Crucial to attend lectures, many things covered aren't in the texts. Prof could be a tad boring, but only because he teaches very clear, simple and slow. Very good if you tend to need more time to digest things; he uses lots of examples for each concept, so you'll get good practice if you take good notes along with his class, which is important.

Avoid prof at all costs (econ 441). If you need 400 level econ credit, this is not the class you want to take. No text book to refer to, makes you read about 40 papers or so some of which are 50 pages or longer. Make sure you write down every word he speaks. Lots of math involved. VERY VERY strict marker. Very low average in class. Midterm marks we

Lectures and material are really interesting nd reasonable in terms of difficulty; I wish I could say the same about his exams - they are ridiculously unfair! I LOVED the class but now I wish I hadn't taken it just because of what it did to my average. The class average was 61 percent.

A great prof who finds very interesting ways of presenting the information and I cannot imagine a better way of teaching an Economics course on women. His assignments and exams can be hard and you must study for them as they look for very specific answers. If you take good notes in class and do the readings, you'll find that you are well prepared!

One of the best prof's i ever had. Writes on the blackboard so you actually know he cares about his class rather than just reading stuff from slides. Midterms focus on application and not on memorization! I took IB in High School and I love this course. I would love to take another course with him.

lectures were alright, wouldn't make you sleepy... prof seems to be pretty nice, but is very strict when it comes to marking. course material is crazy hard, tons of reading and math involved. class avg this term was 64%, very low for an upper division course

I disagree with earlier posts about math. Many of the models studied in this class use multivariable calculus ie Math 200. I took an A- and used math extensively in describing the models on the exam.
