HORRIBLE! DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS! TEACHER IS UNBELIEVABLY CONFUSING AND SPENDS 55% OF THE CLASS WITH HER EYES CLOSED LOST IN HER OWN THOUGHTS. SHE SPENDS WAY TOO MUCH TIME FOCUSING ON AUTHOR'S OPINIONS AND BARELY ANY ON ACTUAL HISTORICAL EVENTS. HER GRADING REQUIRES WAY MORE DEPTH FROM THE STUDENT THAN HER LECTURES PREPARE YOU WITH. USELESS

Comment:
50 min lectures consist of superfluous side points and musings which are interesting but will not aid students in understanding Landau's expectations. Emails are not answered. Help is not offered or given. Grading seems arbitrary if not prejudiced. Baffling. Reading covers expansive topics and arguments and is without focus. Instr. imperils GPA.

She contradicts herself all the time. If you site something from lecture, it could be wrong come test time. She repeats herself a lot.

I found Prof. Landau to be charming. She REALLY knows the material and has her entire lecture memorized, no notes. She also is able to spout out poems relating to the subject. Brilliant! Not much visual aid, but her energy makes it not too difficult to stay focused.

Landau is fine until you disagree with her. After that you pretty much fall on her bad side and it's impossible to regain her favor. She's very harsh when it comes to research projects and while she offers ample help, it's not in a constructive tone at all. Unfortunately in some cases she is a required professor to take.

This class was difficult because of the ammount of reading (1 novel per week, often 300+ pages) a five page essay every other week. Discussion based, attendance not mandatory, but participation=40% of grade. Discussion hard to follow, sometimes rambles. Rarely lead discussion, left it all to us. Tough grader, but will try to help in office hours

Sit in the front of the class if you must because she doesn't speak very loud and doesn't use the mic. She repeats herself a lot and takes the time to think out her sentences (in other words, structures her sentences to be really hard to understand). Her TA's grade the essays, and the class is pretty much essay-based. Discussion helps out A LOT

Worthless class, stammers through whatever she's talking about which no one can decipher anyway, talks about something then realizes she didn't know what she was talking about in the first place. Useless reading. only take class if you want to talk about prevalent authors of the era and not the actual history because I learned nothing. HORRIBLE!!

She is possibly the worst teacher I have ever had at UCD, she completely killed any interest I had in History, and failed both my friend and I, after we disagreed with her on a topic in class.

I worked with her on my honors project. She rejected every single outline/thesis paragraph that I wrote, but didn't tell me what was wrong with them. 2/3 of the way into the project, she told me that my chosen subject was "too broad" and didn't offer suggestions on how to change it. I ended up dropping the whole thing in despair.

This seminar turned out better than I hoped. Landau gives excellent guidance on the research project; don't cheat yourself write a rough draft so she can give you feedback. Be prepared to work your arse off. A lot of reading and discussion of material in class. ARE YOU UP TO THE CHALLENGE?

She is THE worst teacher at Davis, and I would say that to her face. She failed me from the class because she didn't agree with my opinions, even though I supported them perfectly in my essays. her responses on your papers are simply "NO" written all over it. We pay $15,000 for some b**ch to write NO on our papers and fail us w/ no explanation?

I have had two classes with her and they were exactly the same. The class votes on the braekdown of the scoring. Just make the essay worth the least because she grades those pretty tough but has easy midterm and final as she gives you the questions ahead of time.

By far, the WORST professor I have ever had. Hearing her lecture is like pulling teeth. Bad attitude, not helpful at all, her lectures are so bad it almost seems like she wants you to lost interest and bomb. Do not take her class unless you're some sort of masochist...

Her lectures at first seem useless- little more than class discussions that she vaguely leads. When she finally gets around to lecturing she proves very good at it. The midterm is just one essay question. Focus on showing an understanding of the different historical arguments you read for the class.

Sorry- but in my opinion the last few reviews are inaccurate. I am a history major- I have taken a lot of history classes and this one takes the cake for being the worst. She is unclear and really does not know how to lecture. Lectures are not continuous they do not seem to create a cohesive picture

very kooky, and yes she drinks a lot of ginger ale. she allows you to pick the percentage of each assignment. this quarter we are 25 for the midterm 50 for the paper and 25 for the final. my advice is that you go 1 midterm 98 paper and 1 final, so that you dont have to waste time with the reading
