Comment:

I took both courses last fall and spring and I truly enjoyed them.If you want to learn about plants in a fun and relaxing atmosphere (Mesa Campus & Balboa Park) than this is a great opportunity. Be ready to study hard for the tests and to make the Journal. Except being a great professor Pam’s sense for humor added a special flavor to the class.

Comment:

This class was awesome. "Plants and Design" is at the nexus of landscape design, yet it has not been taught anywhere in our metropolitan area. It is key! Pam brings unique qualifications because of her background in both areas. Her lectures are so professional that they should "go on the road" in these times of urgent landscape retrofit.

Comment:

Landscape arch. tends to be a hardscape-driven field. Instead, this class (Plants & Design - summer only) emphasizes plant combinations. I can't think of anyone better suited to teach it than Pam. Inspiring and fun (and to the person who made the menopause comment - show some class. I'm guessing you're the one who needs hormone therapy).

Comment:

Lots of work for 2 units but I'm glad I took it. Drafting is kind of old fashioned but it's good to know. Pam Chapman is no nonsense, but she is very smart and a good sport. Her specialty is landscaping but there was only one time she was stumped about an architecture question. Hardly a waste of time like somebody said.

Let me put it this way, she is not an architect but a landscaper. If you're taking landscaping classes with her then she is great, if you're taking an actual architecture class, then be prepared to have you time wasted.

Intrstng prof. Pam knows her class format. Sometimes she seems nice/helpful, although she is often a little erratic and insensitive to students. Assnmnts are creative yet her critiques and grading are often a bit unclear as she tends to contradict herself. Although slow paced, the course covers a lot. Tip: it can be very awk if you disagree w/ her.

This teacher drove me crazy. She was mean and critical and often contradictory. She made absolute statements and then said completely different things. She would tell us to do creative assignments one way and then shoot them down. She was clearly so capable, but did not care and preferred to feel smart than to teach, Menopause is my theory

Learn to identify trees while spending the afternoons walking around Balboa Park! Just be prepared to take pictures or look them up on Google Images or even draw them, if you are a visual learner. Pam is a walking encyclopedia! Study hard for the tests and enjoy being outside - it's very rare for any college course.

Wow, this chick knows her stuff! Pam is so incredibly knowledgable about plants. Soak up as much of her info as you possibly can. This class truly is "a walk in the park". You really have to study and memorize your plant lists - up to 35 at a time & 150 for the final! She only tests on 25 plants each time, tho. Class was more fun than expected.

You'll learn so much about design that it will blow-your-mind! Pam will work you, but you'll be able to apply this knowlage to anything and everything in your career. CAUTION! Do not expect any easy class or a good grade (she will grade you as a peer with her level of experiance). If you have a big ego, prepare to be humbled.
