I felt like the discussion really enhanced my understanding of the course. It made it easier to get through for a difficult subject (for me). She made the science a little easier to understand and graded well. We got a little time after each quiz/test to use our books and notes.

Calahan is the worst professor I have ever had at SVSU. She simply just reads her misspelled slides to the class and talks about her personal life. I feel as if I payed for a three credit course and received not even a high school rated education. She is by far the worst instructor I have ever ad.

Comment:

Calahan is not as bad as people make her seem. She is not always clear when saying directions, so follow the syllabus and the homework handouts. At times, she seems a little disorganized, but she has some good information to share. Also, be very specific in your lesson plans.

Here's the deal, if your major is secondary ed you can't avoid taking 308 with Calahan. So, my advice is to just be prepared. Your assignments will go ungraded for months. You will be annoyed and frustrated in her class. You will feel like your wasting your time. And, you'll realize she has no clue what she's talking about. It is what it is.

Dr. Calahan expects you to put a lot of time in the class. For Spring it was 20 hrs between in class and at home. She states this at the beginning of class. Treat her with respect and she will treat you with respect. This is not an easy A class,be prepared to work. Don't complain about her assignments. Ask for clarification on assignments.

One of the worst professors I have had. Very unclear in directions and expectations. My GPA is 3.9 and I almost failed her class. During office hours she told me my unit plan was fine then gave me on D on it. She destroyed my confidence as a teacher.

I am an older student returning for my teaching certificate. I found this professor to be the worst for management and organization ever. All the students seem to dread going to her class and when you leave you are just confused as to what need to be done. STAY AWAY from Calahan! Take GOULD or anyone but her!

Alright, I almost never complain about profs, but this one really is bad. Every student (even the old people) DREAD this class every week. The workload is ridiculous at times and the assignments unclear. If you can take a different section (like Gould!) do it, if not, be prepared for a long semester.

WOW, I had no idea that someone with so much education could be so bad in the classroom. DO NOT TAKE HER! She is so very unorganized and scattered in the class. I have NEVER had a worse instructor. I can't believe she's never been fired. She is clueless, wears the same clothes every day, and appears unstable at times. AVOID her section. Hire someone who can teach and who understands college students.

Nice person outside of class, but in class is a different story. I did not find her to be very helpful at all. She made assignments much more difficult than they had to be. She was also not very clear on many things either. Whatever you do, do not make Dr. Calahan one of your first choices because you will regret it.

Worst class ever! Most of her teaching was in alternative schools setting, not public. So, who is she to tell you what a typical public school class is like or what to expect. The class work is way overly time consuming and you are luck to get a decent grade on anything...actually, you're luck if you can even PASS the class!

The amount of work was ridiculous (much higher than any other ed class Ive had) and very poorly explained. Going to class honestly had no point. That being said, after speaking with her about the workload and my placement being overwhelming, she did accommodate me. If you talk to her, she is nice but as a teacher, dont even bother.

SHe was the worst teacher I have ever had. She was unorganized and very rude. SHe did not help students out and everything she did in the class was useless. I learned absoulty nothing from this class. When students had questions she never answered them, and her assignments were absoutly ridiculous! She should be fired, for her dress alone!
