Comment:

Dr. Breen makes you work for it but is there to help you along the way. Though he grades papers extremely harshly, I learned a lot from him and genuinely enjoyed his seminars as he helps everyone contribute and makes conversation interesting. He is funny, smart, and caring. As long as you give this class all you have, you'll end up with an ok grade

Dr. Breen is a wonderful professor and person in general. He genuinely cares about his students and wants them to succeed. He makes an effort to always be available for extra help, even on weekends. He gives constructive criticism, and expects a lot, but you will surely become a better writer by taking his class.

Dr. Breen is an incredible man. He wants his students to think & write like historians, but will have the class stop him if he is getting ahead of himself. He will always make time for his students, coming holding office hours that fits students schedules (even Saturdays & Sundays). He genuinely cares about his students. I highly recommend him

Avoid at all costs. Does not help his students, even when they put the effort in. His lectures are unclear and unhelpful. Do not take unless your GPA can afford the grade. Impossible to do well in his class.

Dr. Breen could not have been more condescending and unhelpful when I visited him in his office. He always tells us how lenient he is but he is such a jerk and doesnt really know the material. If he forgets his answer key for the quiz he has no idea what the answer is. whatever you do do not take Dr. Breen. Worst decision I've made in college.

Extremely condescending and says things like, "my five year old at home could grasp this concept better than you guys." Even if he's not your seminar professor, he'll make civ more difficult for you. If he thinks you're not paying attention in class, he'll call on you and embarrass you in front of everyone. Impossible quizes

I took him for two classes, history and civ, and absolutely loved him for the history class. Still a tough grader but he was very nice and helpful. Decided to take him for civ and I wish I hadn't. Insanely hard grader, takes the course way to seriously, and has no sympathy for his students at all. Recommend for a history course, not for civ.

Been cares about the improvement of his students and while many say he is a tough grader, I know with 100% certainty that not one of my classmates or myself left without a B or higher. With each assignment (which is no more than 23 pages) he gives thorough feedback. I left the class feeling much more confident in my readingwriting. Must take!

No arguing that this class is very difficult & requires work, but the reward's well worth it. Your writing will improve drastically & you'll have a new & really insightful way to look at history that you'd never thought of before. Professor is very funny & candid, makes class a lot of fun, and is more than willing to meet for extra help & guidance.

Dr. Breen is a difficult professor, but he genuinely cares for students who are willing to put in the work. I have never had a professor so willing to sit down and talk about a project as much as Dr. Breen. He will give you pages of comments on a paper. If you want to be a historian take Dr. Breen. He's also hilarious in class.

Worst DWC professor out there! Don't take his class. His grading system is absurd and he does not know what he is talking about. Breen thinks he is really funny, I find him to be cocky and condescending.

Do not take a class with him he is an impossible grader. He grades his essays like we are published authors and didn't give anyone above an 80 on the first paper. Stay away from him if you can!

Breen is a REALLY difficult teacher and he expects a lot from his students. His tests are impossible and his lectures are hard to follow. He is a really hard grader on essays and he is not helpful. Do not take his class unless your gpa can afford it!

Breen's lectures are impossible to follow. He jumps from topic to topic and it's hard to know what to take notes on. He is also an unreasonably difficult grader. He's a genuinely nice person, but not the easiest professor to deal with.

Breen spends about an hour (out of 1:15) of every civ lecture talking about NOTHING to do with the material. I would say don't bother showing up until the last 15 minutes, but he gives a reading quiz at the beginning of every class.

Incredibly difficult assignments that everyone had a hard time understanding made up most of the class. He's a great guy, really funny and good to talk to, knows his stuff but is an insanely hard grader. If he doesn't like your writing style you're SOL. Take his class for a challenge, but be sure your GPA can afford it.

Thought-provoking and interesting lectures. Seminar is tough, and he grades with no mercy. If you pay attention and really try to engage him and get something out of his teaching, he can be great. He's big on coming up with your own argument and developing it. Overall he's hard but worth taking if you're up for a challenge.

Watch out for this teacher, he's gonna make you think. If you're in college to graduate with a degree and not think about your world, do not take this guy. He will not spoon-feed you. Talk to him BEFORE you write a paper and he'll tell you exactly what he's looking for. He cares more about you learning to think for yourself than making grades.

Dr. Breen is a really interesting guy to talk to, but I wouldn't recommend him as a teacher. He took about three months to hand back each essay, and was not very helpful when asked about essay topics. Seminars were pretty interesting but he is a pretty tough teacher.
