I felt that the discussion based class was a nice refresher. Trying out different types of ways of learning is what university is all about. She really did make my university experience that much better. Just be prepared to discuss in class and do the readings! You must be willing to challenge yourself if you want to learn.

Prof spent more classes talking down at us than leading discussions. Felt more like elementary school than a 3rd year class. Good intention, questionable execution

Made the class discussion based, then cut off people mid-sentence or told them they were wrong without explaining why. Went on numerous tangents. Poor discussion facilitator; seemed to have specific talking points that would have been suitable for a lecture format but ended up feeling awkward with the quasi seminar style. Abysmal rubric.

Carrie is AWESOME! She really knows her stuff and cares about her students. The discussion-based lecture style can be uncomfortable for some (you are graded on participation, not only attendance), but you will learn more than you could have ever hoped to learn throughout the semester! A real eye-opener, should be mandatory if it was up to me :)

Carrie's class discussions are the most entertaining discussions ever! Her marking is average (makes you work for it) Overall not a bad class, 3-4 papers and participation-no midterms no final.

Tough love kind of professor. She really cares for her students, but pushes you beyond your limits. Tons of reading and commitment, if you put the work into it you will come out with more than you could imagine

Grade is based on ~5 papers and participation. You need to come to almost every class, read 5 books, and participate to do decently. It's a lot of work. BUT I really like Carrie and class is interesting. You will do well on the papers if u can come up with neat ideas. My hint is to come up with a 'slogan' or 'catch phrase' for your paper thesis.

Attendance and participation are 20%. Midterm and final take-home essays, plus a few one-page activities. Need to read one article per class (no purchase necessary, it's all on-line). Lots of reading. Easy to break it up, but it's a LOT to put together for the papers. I found these papers harder than most, but class is interesting & Carrie is great

Awesome prof. She expects a lot of work (we read 5 books and wrote 4 small papers and one final paper) but is very supportive of students and genuinely wants people to do well. It's all discussion based so attendance and participation is mandatory. Overall the course is tough, but worth it! She's super nice too.

Course is based on participation and attendance is mandatory. You are required to read an average 25 page article PER CLASS. There are two papers that require you to apply ALL READINGS. Definitely a difficult course, however it's not impossible. Just be ready to commit to reading a lot. Oh and a good thing is there are no finals/midterms.

Extremely enthusiastic, makes the class interactive and hands-on (great classroom atmosphere). Genuinely interested in students' needs, and went out of the way to help us pursue our own interests beyond the classroom. Super nice and helpful, and very reasonable workload!

Go to class because the textbook is brutal. But in class, it is impossible to take notes because she talks SUPER FAST and circulates around her main points. She always gets off task and talks about something else which makes you lose focus. The good thing was, the class was really easy!

ruins this class for me. reads content directly off the slides and goes on irrelevant tangents. tries to make light of her "valley girl" tendencies but they are neither cute nor amusing. makes it hard to listen to her voice/lectures. at least guppy is funny, unfortunate that he has to co teach with yodanis.

usually unorganized for class, constantly rummaging through papers trying to find lecture materials. seems flustered a lot. student questions sometimes throw her off track. very defensive about her marking, making her almost unapproachable if you want/need to discuss a mark.

About a gazillion readings (at least 2 lengththy ones per class) means that this class is not for the faint of heart. If you're a woman, it'll make you never want to marry, if you're a man it'll make you want to jump right on that wagon. A real eye opener. Take GOOD NOTES and COME TO CLASS! It will spark your creativity.

A definite Feminist! If you want to pass, go to her lectures, her tests are all from what she talks about in class. If you don't copy down everything she says, you are screwed. Very strict marker ! She has made this a WOMEN's course, all MEN should stay away!!!
