OMG not the easy geo class!! Super hard. Read the book TWICE. Never went to class. Tried but hard to understand. Posts lec slides online but theyre mostly pixs. I have no idea how I got an A. I got a 75% in the class- so he must curve despite that he says he doesnt. Five essay tests- drops lowest one: 1 take home, 1 no notes, 3 with open notecards

This class is incredibly boring. Throughout the whole quarter, I attended maybe 8 max and every time I went, no more than half the class attended. 5 essays, lowest one dropped. No homework, but 3 hr labs once every week. He grades really hard on essays and the prompts aren't easy picks either. This is definitely not an easy A class. A bit useless.

Very hard on the essays. Most of the classe gets C's. Does not curve. Lab final is extremely hard. The other reviews aren't for geo001. Geo001 , I'd stay away unless you have to take it. Professor is extremely nice guy though.

I had Pete back in the 1990s. Great teacher. Glad to see him still teaching. Can anyone draw a perfect circle yet? I went into geology because of him, and now have a successful career. THanks Pete!!

Comment:

Pete is definitely one of the best teachers I have ever had (and he lets you call him Pete!) This is definitely not an easy class, but Pete tries to make it as painless as possible. There are two Saturday field trips, and a few during-class field trips, which are fun if you're into the subject. He likes what he teaches and encourages questions.

Prof. Sadler is an awesome teacher. He is genuinely enthusiastic about geology, and it's quite contagious. He cares much more that you take the time to understand something fully, than that you get a satisfactory answer on a test. Very Helpful, highly recommend.

he was in charge, but not the main lecturer (too bad since he was nicer than the main lecturer). he was a fair grader and helpful during office hours. i don't know why someone else is teaching GEO 1 other than him- the class would've been much more interesting :(

I took him but he was not the the teacher who lectured the course. He was the main teacher but managed the TAs and the labs. He managed all of our papers and seemed to be fairly decent and easy. Down parts would be that the midterms and finals for the geo class were in essay format. He gave broad topics that could be answered in a multitude of ways.

An excellent teacher, he cares about how the students do, and he tries to make himself available to help. The midterms and final were essays that appeared very difficult at first, but he goes over them a lot to make sure the students are ready.

love his voice, it's very interesting. class is ok, i thought the class would be easier by the description, though not bad if you put effort into it. i thought the midterms were rather tricky, but i didn't do much reading. TAs are hot and very helpful people. however, homework every week!!! yes, actual homework. TAs though can be hard graders.

I took this class last year and I must say it was extremely easy. He tried to scare off people by saying that you cant get an A but i got 30/30 on all 3 tests and I got 5 on every homework except 1. Needless to say it was a joke. The practice exams are the same questions on the old ones.

Needs to really slow down in lecture. He just plows right through the power point presentation and sometimes it is very hard to copy down the notes. needs to post a lot more notes on the internet because some of the stuff you miss is not always on line.

Appears friendly, but is the worst 2-faced hypocrite I've ever seen. Seems to encourage students, but is actually quite misleading & contemptuous of them, particularly ones that have difficulty w/ school. If you are an advanced or grad student, he is not what he seems; avoid him & avoid an ambush.
