Had him for FYS history of the prison. Tests were a little difficult, all essays, and then a 10pg paper at the end of the semester. Lectures are long and boring, but every now and then he cracks a joke to see who's still listening. Overall Dr. Smith was not the best teacher, but if you read the book and take good notes it's an easy A.

Had Phillip T. for my seminar. Grades the exams SO hard, but theres no final. You just have a 10-12 pg criminal research paper and short presentation. You have to go to class to do well. Take notes and the exams will be easier. No homeworks. Pretty hard class but hes a nice guy. Very smart professor.

Was realllllllly boring. the most boring class i have yet to take at SJU. recites everything from memory out of chronological order, if you take him this phrase will become familiar to you "Oh and I forgot to mention this..." the 3 tests are all essay and you will not do well if you cannot write well.

This is the most boring class ever. Every single class he stands in the same spot and talks for 1hr and 15 minutes straight, you have to decipher what is important and take notes the entire class. There are 3 tests including the final, essay form with a few short answer. He's a hard grader. I would definitely not take him again.

Smith is horrible. Its that simple. He gives three exams. First one everyone will get D's and F's. I studied for 7 hours for the next exam and recieved a 78. For the final, I put in about 12 hours and still recieved about an 80.

I <3 this man... there's just no other way to describe it. He's funny, but I don't really think he intends to be. Class can be boring, but his tests are super easy. I did the reading like the night before the test and still managed at least B+s on all my tests. This guy is a must-take for history majors/minors/whoever.

I had him for WesternCivI, I am a history major, so I am biased when I said that his class is easy. However, for other kids in my class they did well, just go to class (attendance isnt a big grade but you need the notes) listen, take notes, and do the readings (even though he doesnt check) only three exams, all in-class with 2 essays& short answers

He is random in the way that he discusses things in class. He is an easy grader; just take notes in class and you should be good for the tests. Only a little reading necessary.

This guy is the funniest professor I have ever had at St. Joes. He is THE MAN, just rambles on about pointless crap in class but it cracked me up. Only 3 grades all year which were essay tests which were easy to BS and get a B on. TAKE HIM, he does not give a damn it's awesome!

He's a funny guy, but he doesn't really teach, kinda just rambles. He doesn't follow any sort of timeline or organization but you can pretty much show up seldomly and as long as you read before the tests (which their are only 3 of) you'll pass.

Extremly easy and boring teacher. We had 2 test and a final the whole semester. All three test were essay test. No homework assignments all semester. Allows you to get 5 xtra credit points on your final grade by writing a 5 page paper towards end of semester (mine was 3 and I got all 5 points).

I dont know what the others are talking about but this guy is not easy. He expects wayy too much and he says to know 6 chapters in each book. If you want a challenge take him..if not find another teacher.

Good funny teacher who is very easy to get along with. His tests are tricky because he doesn't give notes in class and he tells you to know about 6 chapters of info. Must go to class to get the topics he stresses. You should take him because he is one of the better HX teachers

He started his last lecture with "I don't know how this relates to the course, but..." That pretty much sums up his lectures. They come out of no-where and you aren't tested on it. YOu must read the book. If you study from lecture notes, you will not even understand the questions on the test.

Boring class. 2 major tests, presentation and paper, and attendance count in your grade. He doesn't tell you what you should look at for the tests and they cover TONS of material - expect to devote your life to studying the day or two before tests - pretty hard grader on tests but not on paper.

Phillip Thurmond Smith is a great guy, who knows his stuff. Took him for Brit/Amer Criminality. Good class and he knows every little thing about the subject. Easy grader on papers and exams. I recommend taking him for any class, just pay attention and read and you'll get a B or better.
