Uses different styles of teaching. Seems like he's been a professor for too long. Quizzes and exams were simple enough to solve but easy to make little mistakes in calculation. Makes jokes that not everybody gets.

Below-average professor. Spent time in class covering specific, irrelevant examples rather than core content. The textbook was useless. Too fast at the end (ran out of time). Wrote fair, unambiguous tests and graded reasonably. Returned exams quickly, but returned final grade 2 weeks after deadline. Cared about students but was unapproachable.

Comment:

I love physics and this man made me hate them for a while. He only teaches formulas and problems which, of course, isn't enough. If you ask questions he will surely laugh at you, reason why the class is always so quiet. Please, search for another professor.

Comment:

Murugesan is a very good professor in that his lectures are straight forward and he work loads of problems, always breaking down the material into smaller parts. He gives you the formulas you need to know for the exams and quizes. Has hw online and his exams are not too hard. Do not however ask questions in his class unless you know exactly what you are asking. he will berate you!

Poov is a very intelligent man, though he seems a little burnt out...I might be too in his position. Had him for 195 and 196. I think most people don't think about cultural differences regarding his mannerisms. He is very math heavy. I highly recommend getting xtra theory lecture from MIT open courseware. Walter Lewin video lectures helped for me.

This was a pretty difficult subject, so in my opinion he did an ok job teaching it. Tests usually followed the examples he gives in class. He provides a lot of examples, but sometimes doesn't finish explaining. Not very approachable person. Fair grading. Got a grade higher than I expected.

where to start? I got used to his accent and writing easily. Laughs at his own jokes a lot, covers material, but get to a point in an example and just says "OK you can finish that at home" when I had no idea how to continue. Intimidating to approach, no one asks questions in class...he just laughs. I'm sure he can be a good teacher, just not for me

I TOOK 195&196.They're hard classes to begin with.He teaching isnt good, but he grades fairly on tests&quizzes.Problems on quizzes&tests straightforward is you do the hw.Study with others, b/c you may not get everything from him.A's are possible if you study hard.B's, is what I got, they are do-able.You wont fail if you try, promise.

yeah, he's a pretty bad teacher. teaching style just doens't mesh with me. semester tests are comulative. 4 questions on the final about energy, but energy chapter was not listed to study for final. labs are easy. he just doesn't know how to teach. no enthusiasm about the subject. no partial credit on tests. web assigned homework.

Comment:

Wastes time on specific examples instead of covering the fundamentals. The text is CRAP (all of the phys instructors except him agree) so I recommend other resources as study aides. His test and quiz grading can be inconsistent and can help you or hurt you. Keep up with the practice problems and quizzes and you should do fine.

This guy is a jerk. I could barely understand him or read his handwriting. If you understand physics already you will do fine. If you need a little additional help he has no patience and is not afraid to show it.

Good professor. Physics is hard. Murugesan is very organized which helps make life easier. His grading is fair. Swore I had a C but got a B. Labs are doable as are tests. He's got a good sense of humor and says the word "circuit" funny. I'd recommend him.

I think Dr. Murugesan is an excellent physics professor. He does lots of practice problems, many of which appeared on the exams. His grading is very reasonable too. I would definitely take a class with him again.

Before I took this course, I consulted this website. The comments were not favorable; as a matter of fact, some were mean and harsh. Actually, this instructor knows his stuff and is enthusiastic about teaching. I learned a lot. He is from India and has a slight accent. Maybe some don't like that. If you are not interested in physics, stay away.
