He is generally excited to be teaching, however I didn't enjoy his presentation of the material. Metabolic pathways were presented by powerpoint. We would often get an image of the pathway and he would spend merely seconds on the slide, though we were meant to memorize all aspects of the pathway. Most of the material was not covered by the reading

Hes kind of passive aggressive and it made me pretty uncomfortable. I tried talking to him during OH a few times and I just felt like he was constantly annoyed

Prof Hampton I a good professor. I took him for BIBC 102 and don't get me wrong it is not an easy class. The midterm and the final are all short answer and a small bit of T/F. They are not easy, however, he posts study topics you should know every week that will guide you fairly well. I really recommend staying caught up b/c things build up quick!

Prof Hampton is probably the best professor I've had at UCSD. Take him if you want a great lecturer! This class is very overwhelming but there's podcasts! His practice tests are very similar to the real ones. His tests are a lot simpler put than what he goes over in class so as long as you know the basics for all the processes you should be ok.

Comment:
Prof. Hampton is great, but I found the way he taught Metabolic to be overwhelming. He would teach so much material, and you had to know all of it, and most of it would require memorizing full mechanisms that could be only partially referenced in his extremely difficult free-response tests where studying required heavy brute memorization.

For teaching nutrition the first time, he did a decent job. Midterm was kinda hard side and too long with FRQs, but final is pretty straightforward with MC. Quizcussions are tedious and kinda useless, but fun to engage. His wording could be clearer, the terms list and study guide suffice to do well. Also curves quite generously. Pretty funny too.

Professor Hampton is a a good lecturer, his sense of humor keeps you engaged with the lecture. His only issue is that the test doesnt reflect what he teaches in class. Also, he asks very generic questions with confusing wording and he looks for a very specific answer.

He is a real gem! I didn't have much time to study for his midterm/final but still did well because his midterm was very fair yet his final was very hard (but he curved well). He is FUNNY and his caring/relaxing demeanor made me positive and less stressed. He is one of the most caring profs ever. Podcast and you'll do well.

I never have written a course review, but Randy Hampton deserves it! His passion and wit exude in his lectures, making them easy to pay attention to. His tests are clear and he explains exactly what is expected of you. Don't get me wrong Metabolic is not an easy course, but take it with him and you enjoy it, and will learn incredible things!

Professor Hampton is a very talented lecturer who keeps engaged throughout his lectures. He provides clear slides, study plans and all available prior exams for better preparation for the exams. His questions are at times not straightforward and you really need to have a clear grasp of the concepts to get an A. He allows regrades of his exams.

He is obviously passionate about the topic and cares about his students. Maybe in a few years will have the class figured out. I do not recommend taking this class as an "easy A." His class is hard to follow and the exams were not a true reflection of the amount I studied or learned. The way that he words the questions is extremely confusing.

This class is my favorite class that I've taken at UCSD! The class itself is interesting and not too difficult (not an easy A tho, imo). Randy is hilarious. Overall, a decent lecturer, he can go off on tangents sometimes but it's entertaining. 2 midterms and the final (MC). He does curve. Take him if you can!

He's hands down one of the most entertaining professors I've had. Tests are pretty straightforward. The only down-side would be the organization of the slides. There aren't any good transitions between topics, which makes it hard to take notes that flow well.

The tests were very unclear. He ended up changing the answers for many questions each test because they were poorly worded. Just know that you could listening to lectures and study perfectly and still get questions wrong. There were so many questions that he said were wrong even though it was different in his slides. Overall very unprofessional!!!

Took Dr. Hampton's BIBC 102 class (which was great), so I decided to take BIPN 108 with him too. Was not disappointed! Every lecture is engaging and memorable, and covers interesting, applicable material. Even better, exams aren't difficult if you attend lecture and look at his study list. All in all, if you need an elective, take this class!

Professor Hampton is hands-down the funniest lecturer at UCSD. His lectures are super engaging and he integrates clinical applications into his metabolic lectures. He provides a LOT of practice/study material and is very clear about what you need to know for exams. I would HIGHLY recommend his class.

The class, although requiring a lot of memorization, isn't too hard. He has a clear study list and if you know what's on that, you'll ace the exams.14/10 I am taking another class with him next qtr!
