Professor Lowry really knows his stuff in terms of film theoryhe rambles a bit and goes off on tangents, but even that's very evidently because of how interested he is in what he's teaching. Not a super strict grader, but not easy eitherexpects you to come up with original ideas and really engage with the material but always offers good feedback.

Love this man. Took 2 classes with him one semester and was genuinely excited to go to both of them every week. Likes a straightforward writing style for his essays, none of that AP high school triangle intro/conclusion crap. Lectures and readings are interesting and make you think. Am definitely planning on taking another class with him.

He does a good job engaging the class. The topics discussed are really interesting and you need to participate and contribute to discussions to get a good grade. he doesnt force anyone to speak so its up to you to contribute. his grading is not strict but not too lenient either. i did minimal effort and got a B

Funny, great lecturer, super sweet. Not a tough grader, but will make you a better writer. Hot tip: prepare for quizzes by reading the last chapter/few pages of the book if you can't finish it all on time. Fair warning: he read the n-word in Tom Sawyer out loud like it was no big deal. Really shocked me, but I guess that's how it is in college?

Prof Lowry cares about his students and conveys that especially well in office hours. He's funny, smart, and laidback. I wish he was more clear in his lectures as I felt that he rambled sometimes and didn't have a clear learning agenda for students. Still, a wonderful and intelligent man, just a little spacey at times.

He likes to lecture but the topics are really interesting. Make sure you take notes on what he says, it helps a lot with later assignments. He is also really understanding if a student is having any personal issues. Takes a little while to grade but is quick to respond to e-mails. Really funny and laid-back guy.

Maybe he just had a rough semester, but Lowry did not live up to other raters' high praises this fall. He lectured a lot, and at times it felt like he just pulled things out of thin air. He acts with kindness and consideration if you go to office hours, and he possesses intelligence, but his assignment choices felt messy and arbitrary.

Lowry is a funny guy. He is very knowledgable. If you take any of his classes, use his office hours regularly. He is very willing to look over your paper before it's due and give you hinters. If you use his specific writing style, you can get a good grade in the class.

Professor Lowry is hilarious and extremely witty. His class is basically reading books and watching movies and then discussing them as a class. Be prepared to write papers though.

Epitome of a great professor - intelligent, helpful, fair grader, FUNNY. Made my intro Literary & Cultural class a ton of fun and interesting - he's like the cool uncle you wish you had. If you're taking a English or LCST class, do whatever you can to take a class from him. You won't regret it.

Most understanding and accommodating educator I've had. Great lecturer, funny, makes texts relatable, and so nice. Gives broad essay/paper prompts. Difficulty and length of assigned reading material is more than manageable. I recommend using online versions of the short stories online to save money and so you can search for quotes. Take his class.

Rich Lowry is such an awesome professor. His classes are always a lot of fun (this is my second with him) and he is very engaging, even when discussing dry 19th century American lit. His enthusiasm keeps you laughing and engaged. Even if there are several long essays, he is a really fair and easy grader, and is always available outside of class.

Professor Lowry is a great professor. His American Lit class focuses on a lot of different authors and genres, but he finds a way to make it all engaging and accessible. He is an easy and fair grader. Even with the 3 or 4 long essays you have to write, if you put forth effort, he notices and rewards you. Class discussions were always fun as well.

A great representative of the English department. Always was interested in the opinions of each student no matter how outrageous they were. Its a shame that it was at 8am so my energy was low but I still had great memories from it. His best focus was on creativity.
