Comment:

Professor Marquez is very rude and disrespectful, he also likes to make sure his students are aware of their faults/mistakes and makes sure that the rest of the class knows as well. As a professor you should NOT discourage your students, you should encourage them to do better. He makes us do a lot of journals and essays then gives us rude feedback.

BE ON TIME! If you have to choose between this class and another class, I would strongly recommend you pick the other class. This teacher is rude and will point students out in class and humiliate them to make an example out of them. He is a very tough grader and expects everyone to know how to read and write the way he likes because it's college.

Quizzes on information you never learned. Expects you just to know from previous English , meanwhile has you reading a Spanish Novella. His test are all fill in the blank . Miss class you miss everything. Likes to make every student feel incompetent to the point of narcissism. Literally calls students ignorant in class. No personal perspective.

Comment:

Picky with how he grades weekly essays, but as long as you keep up with the readings and do your best when he assigns journal entry warmups and group work opportunities, your grade should end up fine. His course may feel difficult at the start, but if you stick past the drop date, he'll offer many chances and freebies to up your grade further.

I enjoyed this class and Prof. Marquez, he was honest and specific in his feedback on my work, and he was very receptive to students that put in effort. I can understand being put off by him or the work, but it's not the fault of the course or prof. This course will be better for you if you try to engage and understand rather than just pass.

Smart, but extremely impatient. Has his way of teaching but gets quickly frustrated if students don't understand, verbally or written, the first time around. I got an A and kept up with the work. Many students need help with writing, but his attitude is discouraging if you need help. He seems to only care for those that already know how to write.

WORST PROFESSOR EVER ! Quizzes on information we never learned , rude and disrespectful to students, gave everyone a failing grade on their first assigment after the w-drop date. Do NOT recommend. Do not even attemt this class as English is my major and i was completely unintrigued and learned nothing in that class.

He gives a ton of reading. He tries to pick stories that are interesting but they are usually boring and tough to understand. He also grades really tough. I got a low grade on a paper and he said it was one of the higher grades in the class.

He complains a lot about his classes and is very passive aggressive. He made me not look forward to coming to class because his attitude was unpredictable. He didn't give much direction at all and assumed his class knew how to write the way he wanted. If you could avoid having him as a professor I would.

you must be ready to read, gives out a lot of homework, you dont read you wont pass! if you want an easy A, I would not recommend him. he makes you work for the grade you want. he himself says he can be a little bit of a jerk. you must really work hard and stay on track. must attend class

There is so much reading involved in this course! Like 3+ hours per night of reading. He tries to choose interesting stories, but it does make it hard since he has to explain so much history along side it. He has a good sense of humor, so the class discussions usually remain entertaining. Hes pretty tough on the essay grades, but hes pretty fair.

Definitely has lots of homework (taken him twice). The projects arent hard, theyre just tedious. Lots of reading, but he generally chooses interesting stories. Pretty clear about his expectations. He does track attendance, and youll do better in the class the more you participate when you attend. Hes pretty open for discussion. Very humorous.

Professor Marquez gives a lot of feedback that will help you in your writing for future classes. Make sure you read the books he assigns because there will be quizzes. Its the small details he asks about to make sure youre actually reading. A lot of essays. Miss a day and you will miss a lot.

If you write a paper, participate in the peer review and turn it in on time, how do you get a zero? "not meeting the guidelines" is how, although it did meet the guidelines, this professor does not like creative thinking. compared my paper to no work at all. Take another professor who actually cares and helps you, not just gives zeros.

Prof. Marquez is a great professor! He is tough at grading, however, you will definitely become a good if not better writer if you actually take into consideration his notes marked on your papers. He gives you the opportunity to do extra credit. Do it all!! & read the book he assigns because you will have quizzes and they will make or break you.
