This class was really interesting. He brings in really good ethnographic studies. if anthropology is not your major, or you aren't interested in culture or religion DO NOT take this class. otherwise, this is a really great class. he tries to help you as much as he can, and his exams are only difficult if you don't do the readings or skip class.

Great guy, very helpful in office hours, but the midterm and final are very hard to study for. He doesn't give you much direction in what's going to be on the exam (besides 'what we covered in class and reading') - that's my biggest complaint. Class is slow but easy. Easy B, A if you want to read.

If you want an easy class- this isn't it. Midterm sucked, twenty questions, tricky questions. But he's a great professor, although his classes are boring and he takes attendance. If you're not really interested in learning, this class isn't for you.

I LOVE Sosis. He's quirky and straight forward. Only a midterm/final, 1 essay, and attendance for your grade. I loved that there were no surprises. I got an A in the course but to do that requires a lot of reading. If you go to class, take notes and read the articles/ethnographies you're golden. Sometimes class got boring but overall really good!

Sosis is the man. The material he teaches can be a bit dry but he tries to make it interesting. He is clearly a brilliant guy and loves to hear new ideas. Willing to help students if you have problems/questions. Go to class - his exams are based on lecture. Look for the classic jean shirt/khaki combo and pre-class banana.

Literally one of my favorite professors EVER. I am even taking another one of his classes! It's a lot of reading but he makes the class interesting and enjoyable. He really knows what he is doing and provokes new ideas and interests.

Sosis is excellent. He makes very difficult (for us undergrads) anthropological theory easy to understand and will work with you until you get it. I found his lectures fascinating, and he doesn't use any flashy gimmicks to keep your interest. I highly recommend for non-anthro majors (I wasn't one, still awesome).

Great guy, helpful, always willing to answer questions. His evolution of religion class (ANTH 295) was difficult. Tests were unclear as to what kind of answer he wanted. He graded them harshly. I studied a good amount for both tests and pulled off a C. He only had 2 tests and a paper due at the end of the semester.

He was ok but not very open to other opinions, considering he is an anthropologist. He ate a banana everyday like a monkey or something, spent too much time in the jungle???

Yes, this is a grad class and I am an undergrad, but he was very helpful in making me feel comfortable...and didn't make me feel dumb when I asked questions that were a bit juvienile ( for a grad class anyway.) He's a great professor and if he comes back from Isreal anytime soon, take a class with him! He's Great!
