No tests, but boy do his lectures confuse people! If you don't have prior knowledge to continuum mechanics, learning can get tough. Wouldn't recommend his course if you aren't good at self learning .... but it is a mandatory one so ....

horrible. assumes se9 taught you well (which it didnt). LEARN HOW TO DO THE MATH because his quizzes and midterms and finals focus more on that than the programming. TA (anna) does not know how to program and is extremely unhelpful. I asked her to clarify one of the homework questions and her response was that the question wasn't unclear. Thanks.

Comment:
Lectures go over the HW assignments indirectly. They are definitely boring to go through but he explains the code and what each line does so you should definitely attend. MT and Final look very similar to the practice sheet he gives you. Unreasonable expectations for writing code on tests though. HW will take you some hours, don't procrastinate.

He told us we would have pop quizzes, but he would usually announce them. We ended up only having 2 or so in the last couple weeks of lecture. Homeworks are confusing. Midterm was really easy, it was exactly like the practice exam. Open book/open note. Final was a bit of a surprise, but I ended up with a good grade. Not sure how that happened.

All SE majors are going to take this course, so listen and listen good. You need this course to get through your undergrad. DO NOT USE C++ ! Learn MATLAB and learn the problems (assignments) that are introduced because they're damn well going to show up again in later UG courswork. As for Asaro, good luck with that. See your TA as much as possible.

I'm surprised this guy isn't blind in his right eye from staring into the projector light all day long. Also this guy is really hard to track down. I'm 0/6 in showing up to his office and him actually being there. his assignments are insane and i take forever to get to what he is looking for.

Do the UCSD community a favor and REPORT this teacher on CAPE!! If you have to take his class, contact CAPE and ask them to PLEASE come to this class so you can rate this guy. If you look in CAPE, you'll see there is no rating for him due to a lack of responses. This is b/c he avoids being rated!

This has to be one of THE WORST teachers I have had at UCSD. The money I spent on his lecture notes from the soft reserve was a waste; I think I used them once. He is disorganized; lectures make no sense; everything I learned came from the TAs. He cancelled class to avoid a review by CAPE!!!

Asaro is almost impossible to understand and so are his notes. There is no text for the class other than his lecture notes soft reserve. The TA grades your programs and I think he felt sorry for us, because the grading was fairly easy

The guy CAN'T TEACH!!!We always had to go to TA office hours to get help on homework. Lectures are CONFUSING! Advice: don't do homework the night before it's due... Oh, another thing, the class is BORING.

The guy is very into his lecture notes and loves to confuse the hell out of everyone. If you seriously are in love with programming and like writing programs to execute math functions and commands, then this is the professor to have, otherwise, good luck trying to stay awake in his lectures.

This man is brilliant but feared. If you ask him for help he will spend hours with you. His classes are always extremely well organized but deal with very hard topics. Every class I have taken with him has been hard but has taught me a huge amount.
