Comment:

Very clear syllabus. Two in class essays, two take home essays an one final research essay and presentation. Class discussions about readings happen often, and quizzes are assigned based on readings. Read more current works. Pretty usual class, he tries to be funny but is just kind of goofy. Overall a good professor, I would take him again.

Professor Pohl is a nice professor, I am happy to take his WRT101. Through the journals, 4 essays, and final research paper step by step, I really learned and improved my English writing. He has a 1-to-1 conference in the middle of the term, and a presentation on your research paper before the final.

Follows the syllabus. Inaccessible through email or otherwise. Doesn't use moodle, doesn't update the grades, doesn't hand back papers or quizzes. Extremely vague in re: feedback on papers. Quizzes w/in first 10 minutes of class; 5 min late and he'll mark you absent + get a 0 on the quiz. No reasoning with him. Straightforward but impersonal.

He was very impersonal and didn't take the initiative to even learn anyone's names. The class was boring but he always tried to keep us entertained. He's very punctual. Never late and never absent. Respect him and follow the syllabus and you'll have no issue.

This class combined Comp 1 and Comp 2 into one semester. The course was well paced and Professor Pohl did an excellent job of keeping it interesting, educatonal, and engaging while also making it fun. The first week is kind of dry but it picks up after that. Do the assignments and you'll be ok. He's a straight shooter and made this class enjoyable.

Awesome prof. I took his 101/201 class that was combined into one semester and really liked it. He does a good job balancing the workload and making it interesting, especially since this class was 6 hours a week for 6 credits. He's big on class discussions but they're fun. Strict attendance, but follow the syllabus, do the work and you'll do ok.

I have taken him twice - once for WRT 201 and another as a hybrid in Success. He's funny, easy to talk to, engaging, and helpful. Participation is something he is BIG on. Read the assigned works - pop quiz's in the beginning of the semester. I actually enjoyed his lectures. Just do it!

Really down to earth guy. He gets what it's like to be in school and working, and although he expects you to work its reasonable. I took the 7:50 writing class and found it interesting, engaging, and informative. I liked that the class was really small, only about 10 students or so. Professor Pohl really knows his stuff.

This class really wasn't bad at all. And it was 7:50 at night. Yeah, some of the reading was boring but I saved money since there's no book to buy. The discussions were fun and weren't like any other class I've ever been in. As long as you do the work and look like you're trying you'll do fine. No regrets taking this class. I would take him again.

He's an excellent professor. Just show up to class on time and do all the assignments on time and you should do well. The only reason you won't do well is if you're lazy. There are lots of ways to help your grade that aren't writing assignments. Definitely one of the better professors at BCC.

This was my 3rd class with him; had him for IST-121, WRT-101, and WRT-201. Luck of the draw the first time I had him, then I made sure to get his class the last 2 times I had him. Well worth taking. He's a great professor and very helpful to students no matter where you are in your college career. Classes are fun and I learned a lot from him!

Totally cool!!!!!! wrt1 was super boring and I'd thought wrt2 woulda been more a the same. he made me read a book for my paper and the the book wasn't halve bad. u gotta show up 4 class. Profs like this make a lame class fun!!!!!

Professor Pohl is an excellent professor. I took his late night 7:50 pm class. Good discussions and interesting topics. Strict attendance policy and assignment policy. But just show up and do the work and you'll get a good grade.

Do the homework, come to class and participate and it's a easy grade. He tells you what you gotta do the first class and it seems like lots of work but its really not that much. Homework and papers are kinda easy but don't try to bs him with any excuses b/c he doesn't put up with any. Class is kinda interesting and the talking circles are fun.

Hard to rate. Book sucks, prof is good. All these classes use same book and same outline. Prof new the deal about what's it's like to be in college. To bad he followed book to much instead of going with the class. He did make a real lame course good. To many assignments were required. New alot in money and critical thinking and advising.

This class was challenging, interesting, fun, and eye opening. Pohl made lit and poetry relevant to life. I never liked poetry and he used songs so even someone like me got into it. Makes you accountable for your grade but he lays out the first class exactly how to get the grade. Only reason I didn't do better is I blew off a couple assignments.

Comment:

Take him. I had him before I transferred and got my BA and wanted to give him a shout out. Most useful class I've ever taken. It really helped me make it through college. He knows what it's like to be a student and doesn't pretend he's all that like most profs. I still use things I learned in his class like job hunting and all the money stuff.
