Dr. Shedinger is very straight forward with his expectations and though he is kinda monotone, he has extensive knowledge of the course material. The people who complain about the grades in the class/Dr. Shedinger are the ones who sit on their laptop playing games and not paying attention.

He's a decent teacher however if you aren't into lectures, find a different teacher. Every class is a lecture and there is barely any change from class to class. He also spends the semester talking about 2 things. The class is also very homework "light". There are only 8 things so make sure you turn in a decent paper.

If you have to take a religion class at Luther (which at some point you do) I would highly recommend taking from Dr. Shedinger. It's a super boring class and honestly painful at times but it's extremely easy and he is not a tough grader. Not a hard class.

For a first-year exploratory seminar, his "Darwin, Drugs, and the Divine" course is an intriguing discussion! He is clearly invested in the subject and makes it an open and trusting environment with his own story and which allows and encourages students to open up and share too. One of my favorite classes I've taken!

Shedinger is really heavy on the papers, but is super unclear on what his expectations for them are. He takes forever to get the paper back. He doesn't seem to believe anything he teaches is true. The only positive thing I can say about him is that sometimes he can be pretty funny. Overall, AVOID!!

You'll never be surprised by the assignments, and the material necessary to succeed on them will always be thoroughly presented in class. Plus he's a great guy and a pretty easy (and fast) grader. Highly recommended.

Very knowledgable on his subject. Won't push his views on you, but he'll give you the material to form your own. Pretty easy grader, so you won't be constantly worrying about your scores. Can't recommend him enough.

Shedinger opened up doors for me. He is knowledgable, and his intention is genuine. We discussed many controversies and inconsistencies in the Bible and he presented the material in a very factual way. Never once did he try to tell someone their faith was wrong. He is approachable and a very nice man.

Shedinger knows his stuff. He's all around peculiar and interesting---come on, he's a Baptist teaching Islam. Rumor has it he grades harder in OT if you don't agree with him. His theology is pretty out there too.
