Comment:

Professor Di Pietro is a very interesting character. You can tell he really cares about the subject he teaches, the thing is, while he is very knowledgeable, the way he explains things doesn't make a ton of sense. Just be sure to do your best on assignments, he is a very lenient grader. Overall, he was nice and lectures weren't the worst.

Comment:

A great guy to talk to, and super interesting. That being said, I would not take another one of his classes. The amount of work I put into developing notes and research papers took probably 60% of the time I put into school when I had 3 other classes. There were some parts of the class where he expected you to know things without explaining.

Pros: you know what to expect. the more you write on papers the more points you get. Cons: You will write OVER 40 pages worth of notes and papers, so if you don't like writing stay far away! You WILL work for the grade in this class. Overall: Prof Di Pietro is a down to earth guy who understands what students go through.

Although he's obviously very intelligent and knows what he's talking about, I feel like I never quite understood what he was trying to tell me. It was very unclear what I was supposed to do on assignments or exams. We weren't even given an explanation of what will be on the midterm until the day before.

He is very understandable and caring. He knows that life happens. His lectures are boring and he only grades on the few papers, the midterms, the final, and chapter outlines from the art section of the class. He does not post grades online. Lectures are usually very boring and long.

This is my all time favorite professor. He is very passionate about his class and his work. He takes the time to get to know his students and really cares about them. He is very understanding that life happens and is accommodating. However, don't take advantage of him! He is human thus he has his limits. Def recommend his class and as a professor.

With this professor, we watched videos every class and wrote a lot of papers. I did not learn a lot in this class. He also didn't grade very well (just looked to see if it was done with page length). He also does not use blackboard so you will not know your grade. I would not recommend taking a class with this professor unless you like this.

Avoid this guy like the plague. He's incoherent, unorganized, generally AWFUL at teaching. If you put a gun to my head, I couldn't tell you about a single composer he covered.

I found Prof. DiPietro to be a genius and a joy to listen to. His lectures are stimulating; he has a way of articulating abstract concepts so that they make total sense as long as you PAY ATTENTION. I highly recommend this challenging but rewarding course to anyone with a passion for music. (Keep in mind you'll be hearing mostly orchestral works)

I learning nothing in this class, at all. All we do is lecture and take notes of lecture and then take notes from book. His lecture is all over the place, and I understood more from videos and book than anything from his lecture. His grading is random and his syllabus is confusing. I wish I would have chose another professor for this. Waste of time

It's hard to rate Rocco. He is very kind and easy to talk to. He gives a LOT of work, but as long as you do it, he doesn't grade that hard. Throughout the class there are three 10-page papers, but as long as you show your work, you'll do well. With that said, this class will help you prepare for the amount of work at a 4-year school.One of the best

This is probably my favorite and most influential class I've taken so far.If you?re expecting to hear more about The Beatles in the class, you?ll be disappointed. This isn?t a pop course. Expect composers like John Cage or Stockhausen instead. He is a very caring and passionate professor, but he isn?t an easy one. There are several 10-page papers.

I took MUS101 in-class. He definitely has a unique sense of teaching but very interesting. He is very passionate about music. Taking notes is survival in this class considering most of your grade comes from notes. Taking a recorder and laptop to class helps a lot. Highly recommend him.
