Test heavy, lectures a lot. Lectures are not very helpful, goes off topic constantly. Lecture topics not on test. Tests often have mistakes on them. Get ready to teach yourself. He is a nice guy though.

Everyone claims he is a hard professor but I loved him. Learned so much in his class and the exams are really not that hard if you study.

How to do well in Chem 110: -Read the chapters. -Take the Practice Tests. 55 minutes on the clock and nothing but a pencil, paper and a calculator. Take them seriously. -Attend his review sessions. Figure out how and why you got things right or wrong on the practice tests. Consider attending Chem 108 for further questions. Good Luck.

Dr. Egolf is a tough but fair professor. If you actually care about your major, you will come to respect the hard professors. They make you learn the most. Chem 212 is a breeze at U Park now. Put in the effort and you will get an A. He is a great person and someone I now consider a friend. You're in college, you have to work for it now.

One of the most influential educators I've ever met. I dropped his non-majors course because I wasn't working hard enough. I came back, put the work in, and earned th highest grade in the class. He taught me the reality that science is about voracious appetite to master your field. Without, you'll fall short. Forever my mentor and a friend

I took this class as a six week summer session course. I expected to come out of the class with a C, but I honestly just did all the book problems he had assigned and the practice tests prior to the test and did great. His grading scale is beyond lenient and if you go to him for help, he's a really nice guy.

I'm sorry but he is just a horrible instructor. Don't take him. It was pointless even going to class because you'd be more confused. Read your book...it's much more helpful. Take the courses at Berks Campus if you can.

Egolf is not an easy professor. He expects you to know the material in depth and expects you to do your homework and read your textbook. Chem is not an easy subject so to do well in his class, you have to depend on more on the book than Egolf himself. He is willing to help when you need it. He teaches too quickly.

I just finished class with him -what an AWESOME guy! Subject was difficult (It's Chemistry - it isnt easy) but he was SO willing to help out & really wants students to do well! Emailed me after the course ended &offered to help write a job recommendation for me! He is the best professor I ever had because he helped me learn to study on my own!

I was skeptical to take CHEM 110 with him, but he honestly isn't that bad at all! He really cares about his students and wants them to do well. Yes, this is a hard course and he can get off topic, but he is really nice, tries to b funny, and is def. willing to help! Good guy! You do have to put in work but if you're willing to do that youll be fine

Egolf is considered to be the most realistic professors you will see at UP. The class is very challenging. Expect long nights of studying (outlining, homework problems, and even listen to a recorder) This class will test you how much you want your major. I want mine and I put the time in and finished at the top of the class. Good Luck

People definitely don't give this guy enough credit. Yes he can be extremely boring at times and he has a tendency to get off topic with his stories, but come on, a 76-100 is an A!! You should seriously consider switching your major if you cant pass this class, and don't transfer to main either.

Dr. Egolf is a nice teacher, who knows his material and will always help you if you ask for it. He does expect his students to do work, which is, in my opinion, the main reason why people dislike him. If you fail his class, it is your fault, and yours alone, be it because you did not do the suggested work, or are simply not intelligent enough.

I took Chem 110 with Roger over a 6 wk period this summer. He was great! I studied A TON on my own but I was waiting for the worst based on these reviews and he was NOT BAD. He always made time for extra help for me, I read the text book, did homework, asked questions and got an A. I really enjoyed his class.
