Overall the best professor I have had. My IDIS class opened up my eyes to look at music in a new way. Dr. Horner really cares about his students and leads amazing discussions that everyone wants to add something. I am better off having had this man as my professor. I believe he has left a legacy through his students, class by class.

Dr. Horner is a nice guy, however his lectures are so boring! Every class I fall asleep no joke. He expects you to teach yourself. I went in thinking this class was gonna be somewhat easy , but turned out to be one of my most challenging. Be prepared for a lot of work outside the classroom

Not a good professor to have if you are just trying to pass. There are a lot of terms you need to know. It is more about the history of music rather than just music. You basically have to teach yourself and the class is very boring.

Dont take this class if you are looking for a fine & performing arts credit . Very vigorous course. In actuality, the class is a music history class with alot of reading and difficult tests. Not recommended.

Music is not going to be an easy class. however, there are a lot of extra credit opportunities. Mr. Horner is a very nice guy, and i think he is all about helping his students get the best grade possible.

Dr. Horner's class is based on an online textbook that he wrote. It is mostly useless. There are test questions based on arbitrary facts. He is very disrespectful to students and doesn't seem to know how to handle himself when something doesn't go his way. If you want an A just show up and do all the work.

Ronald Horner is by far the worst teacher. His lectures are very disorganized. I have played an instrument for most of my life however, im not a music major. His assumption is that everyone already knows music which is why he fails as a teacher. His test are disorganized and always says he'll make a study guide but doesn't. BEWARE DO NOT TAKE HIM!!

Horrible class, the online textbook he reads out of for lectures is so confusing and most of your grade is based in listening activities that have nothing to do with the class topics.

His class should be the easiest if the tests actually corresponded to the study guides but they do not. Also he gets side tracked way too much and reads from his book that he wrote all class long. I would not recommend him for this class.

Easiest fine arts credit. He is a great teacher with unfortunately a lot of uninterested students. Class consists of simply listening to music. To pass just retry the homeworks until you get 100%. Don't get 0% on exams and you'll do fine. Be polite sometimes and participate in class.

Horner let me draw a turkey on his board for Thanksgiving. That was pretty cool. The first test ate my liver and then my kidney's for dessert. The others weren't so bad. He's insane, but kind and overly qualified for the tiny University he is compelled to teach for.

Oh man, Dr. Horner was a cool dude. He TELLS you what is on the test, no lie. Half of the test grade is a listening portion, and he tells you which ones they are. He does not want his student to fail, and his lectures aren't half bad. I'd recommend him to anyone who has to take a music class.

He's a funny teacher, although some of his jokes can be lame. Also he's very helpful, and wants people to pass. The key to passing the tests are getting the playing parts right. Know the song and the artist, if you can get those its 50% of the test. Go to class, you pass.

Comment:
The textbook used was awful. Good coverage of Africa & southern Asia, but only basic, if any, coverage of many important areas, especially the Americas & Europe. The exams were based from the textbook, not lecture material. His lectures occassionally diverted into political monologues as well. Had a good sense of humor, though.

Doesn't know what he's talking about, expects us to remember 959083 foreign instruments and can't even spell them right. Keep track of your recitals, because he doesn't. Nice guy to talk to, sucks on paper. Everyone that actually got music 110 like they were supposed to seems to LOVE him, though.

i thought this class was pretty hard. the exams are tricky. you have to listen to music and know the artist and title. READ THE BOOK and then some if you want a decent grade on the tests! there are 5 exams. you have to attend at least 5 recitals, also, for 50 points!

He is quite the funny guy! His class was pretty easy if you pay attention...if you listen really well in class you won't need to study to much because his tests are pie! I loved him..I had tons of fun!
