Great history Teacher, her lectures are never boring, and she even lets you off from doing the second of the two book based essays if you get an "A" on the first one. Just don't just make sure your spell "Medieval" correctly or she will end you. Tests are easy if you know the lectures and have studied the important people.

Very tough grader on writing and that is what most of this class requires. Knows nearly everything about Medieval history, but even if you're a great writer, it is very hard to get an A in this class, and don't expect her to ever write you a LOR. I regret taking her classes. Also took HIS301 with her.

Study the study guides, go to lecture for attendance, go to REC for quizzes and you will get an A or a B+. She literally gives a study guide and terms from it are on the test. HW is super light. She's also very nice.

She made this class a really enjoyable experience. She's passionate about what she teaches and she expects that from her class. Attendance was mandatory (a sign-in sheet went around the room at the beginning of class). She originally planned to give quizzes, but changed her mind based on the good behavior of the class. Very enjoyable class. Read!!

She is just awesome! It was my first time learning European history and it was such a blast. Midterm and final will not difficult if you go to classes and take notes. She's an excellent lecturer

Professor Lipton is there to help you if you have any problem or question. She puts up a list of important points for the lecture but it's not a powerpoint. You better go to class if you want notes and not a list of names. Overall, she's pretty easy going although she doesn't like the use of laptops and cell phones during her lectures.

Easy going, old school history lecturer. If your into fancy power point slides that get posted on blackboard don't take this class. If your willing to attend every class and actually do the work expected of you, you will have no problems. Definitely one of SBU's best history professors! Not the easiest DEC, but highly recommend for HIS majors.

A very good and clear lecturer; she knows her stuff. A very easy A as long as you attend class and take detailed notes. I went through the course barely opening my textbook, but the primary text is mandatory. Lecture attendance is not mandatory, but recitation is.

This is a stupid class in general but history majors need two 100's. Class is easy if you are a history major. One recitation a week were attendance is mandatory and you just read primary documents. 5 1 page essays. 1 in class midterm, all short essay and answer, but gives you questions before hand. Not the easiest a but not hard if you try.

I truly don't understand the poor descriptions of Professor Lipton, I *LOVED* her. I took 4 of her classes, all having to do with Medieval history, and she was one of my favorite professors. I would go talk to her during office hours about ANYthing. Yes, her classes may be challenging, but they're also rewarding. I highly recommend taking her.

I don't know which Sara Lipton the negative reviewers are talking about. The real Prof. Lipton's lectures are clear, easy to take notes on. Her tests are difficult if you don't come to class, but if you study you'll get an A no problem. Second only to Barnhart in the History dept. at SBU.

Not a very approachable professor. Not one of the best. While she is knowledgable she is very egotistical and thinks she is the greatest. I believe she cares more about her research than teaching. She is a real bore and loves to hear herself speak. Do not take her at all costs!

not a bad lecturer at all but when its time for exams you realize she makes class far more difficult than any other history teacher would. waits until the last class before an exam to give out the review sheet (which has three times as many terms and questions to study than any other professor would use). Avoid if you dont like unnecessary work

The best professor I've had yet at Stony Brook. She is an AWESOME lecturer, and even if history's not your thing, she still makes it interesting. there are a few one-page papers to write, and the exams are in essay format. so compared to other classes i'm taking it really isn't that much work. she doesn't post notes- just lectures.

This Professor is very nice. I agree that the class could be boring at times - Midterm and Final and a Paper. Do the readings, take notes, and go to class is my advice!
