Comment:

Class was your typical ethnics classes at SCSU. Gave very few examples that had to do with education and how to apply it to the classroom. By the end of the semester there was a huge group project, two exams, and two final papers that were very poorly planned to be all done at once. Easy A if you have a very basic idea of race, ethnicity, gender.

Genuinely cares about all students. I'm rating her before finishing the semester to prove that shes not bad like these other reviews say. She is fair you just need to do your work (read.) Shes always there to help. I was VERY nervous to take her class but on day 1 I was convinced she wasnt what these reviews say. Shes a good person & professor.

Comment:

Hakim is a nice person, but that's as far as it goes. Her reading assignments are crazy long, her essays are super hard, and her exams are unreasonable. Her exams are essay based, and even if you give the correct answer, if your not specific enough she will take off points. She has hard core beliefs & only gives good grades if you agree w/her

Seyma is a good teacher. She'll always have time to meet with you, email you, and give you feedback. There's four big units, and under those, 4-5 subunits. Each sub unit has 8-14 articles. GET READY TO READ. Three heavy exams with two essay questions. Two heavy papers by the end of the semester. You learn alot, but it takes hard work to get an A-B

Semya is a great professor! Many many many assignments to do during the semester, and pretty time consuming. In her syllabus it says she's a hard grader but I got 90%'s on all exams and papers. Seems like a hard class, but I learned a lot. Over great professor to learn from

Notes lack detail and don't really make sense. This class is way more work than 3 credits. You have weekly online discussions, with over 100 articles to read and memorize for the 3 essay exams. Very tough grader, expects you to know everything that she knows with specific details. 1 Group project, and 2 papers. If possible, take with someone else.

Hakim does heavy lectures. But if you just copy her notes and read MOST/ALL of the articles, you'll do good on her exams. Seriously make sure you read the articles, they're extremely important if you want to do good on the exam. Also, don't stress out too much. The papers are easier than it looks like, because she was a lenient grader.

This was my hardest class ever! She has you read so many articles and then you take a test and have to write about the topics she gives you in essay form. I kept getting the articles mixed up. She gives you points for talking so if you are shy like me you probably won't do so good in that area.

This class consisted of writing 8 essays based on speakers or films, none of which were graded throughout the course of the class so none of us had any idea of how we were doing. I don't recommend taking this class with this professor. And don't skip, you won't pass. She is clear on that.

This class was way too much work to take in a summer session. 3 BIG projects, loads of articles to read, exams were difficult essays, and no grading feedback was given during the course, only at the very end did we find out how we were doing. Take this course with a different professor if at all possible! Too much stress and work!

She is amazing! There is a TON of reading and discussion. For my program there was also a companion lab. I learned so much from this woman. She is not a popular prof because she has high standards and makes you work. I promise you she is worth it. Put your phone away (she does not tolerate) and enjoy the discussion. I would take her again.

Dr. Hakim is awesome! The workload in this class is a lot but it is manageable. Keep on top of the readings and you will do fine. Dr. Hakim is extremely accessible outside of class and emails back promptly with helpful feedback. Class is interesting and the articles to read for class are good. I would recommend taking Dr. Hakim!

Very smart. Not the best teaching skills but she definitely focused on doing her best. She is very nervous and clams up sometimes when she lectures , but she is very nice when she is relaxed. Her tests are wicked hard and weird. You basically have to be able to summarize 50 articles. No text book. She does a good job considering the subject matter.

Semya was a good professor, the class was interesting and kept my attention. A ton of participation and lots of readings. Quite a bit of group work, and discussions. The exams are fairy easy, she basically tells you exactly what is on them but lots of writing on them not multiple choice or anything like that.

Great class with a great professor. No textbook, but expect a lot of readings through articles which is better in my opinion. Stay on top of the readings and show up. Weekly online discussions, 3 essay exams, 2 papers, 1 group project.
