Comment:

Professor Getzen is a simply grade however, she is boring. 1 class for English at Baruch is 1 hour 40 mins. The first 20mins are spent with her writing on the board followed by attendence. She goes off topic quite often and does not know any of the student unless you make the initiative. Overall, I did well in the class however, it was terrible.

Comment:

Prof. Getzen is a really caring teacher. She honestly cares a lot about each individual in the class and talks to each of us about our work. I took a hybrid class for her. In the beginning, we had to post 3 times a week, it was more than usual but the homework load lessens over time. There are 2 research paper and u would have to try hard 2 fail.

She is not bad. There will be three papers and some homework. If you are not a good writer, dont take this class. I got Bs on everything and got an A in the class. She is unclear and confusing but as long as you show that you are trying hard and improving, you will do just fine.

The class is a total puzzle. You will spend the first month just trying to figure out what she wants you to do. Once this is done, the class is enjoyable. She requires work and a lot of people aren't up for it. Anyone who speaks poorly of her is someone who didn't try. She wants you to succeed and she'll tell you exactly how.

Unclear about things and her assignments are online and its difficult to navigate where she puts her docs. but with time, it gets a little easier. Truly a sweet person, goes off on tangents sometimes. easy class, just do your work.

Guys don't take! so boring. So many boring assignments you'll have to do throughout the week. you'll be doing more in this hybrid class than you would in a regular class. And its like she doesn't bother to see how you've progressed, like if you got a b in 1 assignment, no matter how hard you try, the rest of your assignments will the same grade.

Comment:

Getzen doesn't give out A's on anything you hand in. I basically got a B or B+ on everything. But at the end of the semester she gives you a chance to rewrite one of your papers with the feedback she gives you and raises your grade half a letter (B to B+). Shes really unclear with what she wants sometimes. Just be nice to her in class, it'll help.

She's unclear in everything she does and says and cannot articulate her thoughts. Her grammar is atrocious, and her assignments are full of so many typos that they're had to make sense of. An A in another class is a B in hers, meaning it's hard to get an A. Changes deadlines and does not explain papers and projects in depth. Offends easily.

The worst professor I've ever had. There is no communication between students and professor. Her online assignments are hard to understand. There is so much confusion during the class. She is very easy to offence. Not suggesting at all!

Sheila Getzen is a kind, sweet person but her lectures are all over the place. Much of the time she stops mid-sentence to gather her thoughts, often resulting in about 10 seconds of awkward silence. She moves from one thing to another very quickly, so it's hard to keep track. However, just participate and do her papers. Easy B

Professor Getzen is honestly a very, very sweet person, but a bad teacher. Her lectures/topics of discussion are long and boring. The way she grades makes no sense. If she likes you she will talk to you in class but it wont raise your grade at all. Her essays have a lot of unnecessary work and lots of mini-deadlines before you give it all in. Avoid

Professor Getzen is helpful whenever you have any question but her lecture can be boring because she goes off topic sometimes and drags on and on about one idea for too long. She is also often unclear about her assignments, such as the grading criteria and the due date. I got an A from her but I wouldn't recommend taking her...

Getzen just isn't cut out to teach an english class. I often found her losing her train of thought more than 4 times in one class and would go off on random tangents that had nothing to do with what we were supposed to learn. I did well on the essays because she liked my writing but she refused to give anything higher than an A- on them.

Obscenely long lectures. Often goes off on ridiculous tangents and rarely ever gets to the course material. Only way to get above a B is to suck up and ask about everything. Get her to like you though and your'e probably guaranteed a B- .

Professor Setzen, while a nice sweet old lady, can lose her focus and her train of thought ALOT. Her class is super boring. She drags on an idea for more than an hour and rarely gets around to actually teaching us anything. She is never clear on what her assignments are about and you can never read her comments. Hard to get an A from her.

Lectures feel soooooo long. She is a tough grader. I happen to be a good writer and like english yet I worked my butt off and only got an A-. I was one of a few to get above a B.

She's nice but has favorites. Be sure to participate a lot so she will like you. She's not a hard grader and there isn't that much work. One presentation and 4 essays. She doesn't really give out As unless you show a lot of effort in class. Lectures can be boring at times and she goes all over the place but she means well. Relaxed class.
