One of the best classes I've taken at McGill. Soroka is engaging, informed and clear in his explanation of readings. While there is lots of work in this class, it is worth it. I walked away knowing a lot and that was largely the result of Soroka's lectures. I highly recommend.

Comment:
I expected a deeper analysis into the relation between media and politics. The content and especially the presentation of the material bordered on superficial. Prof. Soroka inundates you with readings, forcing you to skim and thus leave the careful critical analysis to your other classes. Not helpful with fine-tuning your research paper.

I actually think he's a bit of an ****. But at least he's funny. He just has no recolection of what it's like to be a student, and assignss about 80 pages of coursepack readings per week.

anyone who accuses him of being "anti-leftist" is probably a knee-jerk moron...anyone who finds his lectures boring is bewildering to me...his clips enhance the experience...the length of the lectures is perfect...rather than speak slowly and waste time, he says what he's got to say and finishes early...easily the best prof in comp. politics

I was very disappointed with Soroka and POLI 357. In addition to just a little over an hour of lecture each week without conferences, Soroka was snide and inaccesible during office hours and returned 'graded' papers months after they were handed in WITH NO COMMENTS!

I don't know about how pro-capitalist or biased he is in 424 but in 357 he was awsome. The guy is a really good speaker and makes you wanna pay attention + he keeps his classes short so you will never get bored. For those who take 300 level classes for the first time, take him! You won't regret it.

Best class I've ever taken. Great speaker, incredibly helpful, fully informed and passionate. Best thing the poli sci dept has to offer. His classes are interesting and engaging. The only agenda he has is to teach and teach well. You rarely will meet a prof so inspiring.

Is it just me or were most of his lecture bs? He only spends 45 minutes + half of that is taken up by movie clips. His lectures are supposed to be reviews of the readings, but all he does is read out long paragraphs word for word straight from the readings at a fast pace. I learned but not really.

Stu's a hottie! a bit obsessed with video clips but makes up the time with extremely condensed, to-the-point lectures. funny, clear, but speaks a mile a minute, so hang on!

Soroka is a wonderful teacher. That being said, unless you're REALLY into theoretical politics, don't take POLI 357.

Just great...its just an added bonus that he's easy on the eyes, but his lectures are always entertaining, they actually pertain to the assigned readings and he seems to actually want his students to succeed...could you really ask for more in a Professor&
