Was super upset that she told us we needed to buy the books and then I literally didnt even use them so it was a waste of money. Shes super scattered with her thoughts and stuff at times. Group project is easy and all the papers were really easy also.

Takes attendance every day. Assignments are fairly easy, with one huge assignment due at the end of the semester. If you like group work and no testing at all, this is the professor for you.

Comment:

English 202 by Dr Comfort is not run as an English class. The closest type of class Id say would be gender studies. She only picks the good stuff about certain things and doesnt pick the violent side of anything. Sticks to her own opinion and doesnt accept opinions of others that differ from her own.

Comment:

Her class was focused around discussion and critical thinking. There are some papers that count for a lot and she isn't the best at feedback, but she's also not a super hard grader. If you talk to her about a paper before handing it in she is very helpful in what you should add or change. Her class was interesting and I would take her again.

Class is VERY boring but you have to go. She makes you work in groups a lot. She's an easy/fair grader. Only 4 papers/projects and the one is a group project. Gives you plenty of time to get your paper done and she makes a daft due in class which is nice because it forces you not to procrastinate. Final isn't a test but have to show up and IT SUCKS

A lot of opinion based discussions where your opinion will most likely be deemed wrong if it doesn't comply with hers. A messy group project with unclear guidelines. Extremely overwhelming for an English 202 course. Would not take this course unless you have an abundance of time to dedicate to getting all work done.

Contrary to what another review says, she will absolutely not ridicule you for being a male. She was nothing but respectful to everyone. Class was easy and the subjects covered were very eye-opening. Id take her again!

The best English professor I have had. She is so passionate about everything she teaches. Class participation is necessary but it is not hard at all, just speak during lectures and she will be ecstatic no matter what you say. She is absolutely amazing and always there for her students.

Hands down the best professor i have had at IUP. She is the nicest, sweetest lady and will go out of her way to help you. Her class is very hands on and a lot of discussion but it makes the tests a piece of cake. If you have the option to sake her DO IT! i wish i could take her again.

Took her expecting the class to be easy. 20-500 word pointless essays among other papers. This IS a writing intensive course. Also, if you're a guy, don't even THINK about taking this class. She will ridicule you for being a guy. I got a B but spent entirely too much time for a 200 level course. She will impose her feminist views on you and smile..

Sooo easy and yet sooo boring! There's 2 papers, 10 journal entries, and a final paper. Discussions everyday in class (which will literally put you to sleep) & she loves to talk, beware. Super easy class though, definitely an easy A as long as you do well on the papers. She's always willing to help!

Dr. Comfort is a real humane instructor. She feels with her students and tries her best to help them underdstand what they need. Very knowledgeable, caring, loving and helpful. I would recommend taking with her any course available. Wish she comes back safe and sound from India. Your students at IUP love you, dear doctor

Very intimidating Grad class but she is always willing to help her students if they do not understand. I had no interest in the class at all but after having finished the class everything that I learned now affects how I look at the world. Just be prepared to do tons of work. Definitely recommended.

If you want to know how to be a cliche liberal, she is an excellent mentor. I had to take a senior synth and the only option left was Toxic Tales. I leave class everyday with a very negative feeling. We had 8 books to read and all of them were dry and long. I do not recommend taking her senior synth.

I took her section of "Lit. of Emerging Nations," and really learned a lot from it. We read a wide range of books, which were all really interesting to read. Dr. Comfort is one of the most caring professors I've had during my time at IUP. It's evident that she enjoys her job, and really, truly wants to help students, and wants to see them succeed.

Comment:

The textbook definition of Empathy. Definitely cut me slack when she knew I had a heavy workload. Not the teacher to take if you want to blow off class, though. She teaches you a lot about how to avoid plagiarism, which is good since IUP is stepping up on it now. She even baked vegan food for the entire class. A++ and an amazing woman. :)
