Smart buy, not a great professor. Grain of salt on this, this was his first time teaching this course

Biological literature- not so much. More like presentations on papers you select yourself. Pretty easy, just ask your classmates questions about their presentations for "brownie points", as he calls them. Two presentations and a poster, so not much work for the class.

Good lad. A very humble and honest man. He's good at explaining things but when he has to teach an entire chapter in 1:15, well it gets kinda hard. His quizzes are excellent for people who suck in BIO since they're easy and they're 25% of your grade. Exams are MCQ+4 short answer questions.

Don't take this if you don't have to (aka not bio related major). Exams worth 75% (three exams, 25% ea) and quizzes 25%. If you read the chapter before and after the lecture, you have a decent chance at getting at least a B. It's a lot of work for an A although the final exam wasn't that difficult (compared to the first two).

Comment:
Very nice guy tries to make the lectures as interesting as possible but the content is extremely dense and uninteresting for the large majority of the course. He does stutter a bit but it becomes unnoticeable after a while. The class on the other hand is very difficult and the tests are impossible. If you have doubts about taking this class, don't.

Stutters a bit, but you get used to it. The material is hard. There is a lot of memorization so if you aren't ready to study a lot then you're going to fail regardless of professor. He condenses a lot of things into powerpoints, but the textbook is good if you're still confused. Grade is based on 3 tests and a quiz every week.

He reads off his slides quite a bit, but so what? His lectures are meant to be a supplement to and a summary of the information contained within the textbook, and I think he did a great job of tying it all together. Tests can be difficult, but as long as you read ahead and attend class, it's not hard to get an A.

I don't get why he has such bad reviews. He does read off of his slides, but thats because he's teaching SO MUCH in such a small amount of time. The book chapters are really nitty and gritty so he clears them out for you. He is a really nice and friendly guy. Just !!READ!! the chapters and listen in class and you'll get a good grade.

someone has got to tell him that his teaching methods are so bad. Reading off slides is not going to help at all. I think his approach is all wrong.

I was very excited about human biology. Irving completely killed my enthusiasm. Going to class was an utter waste of time. The free answer questions on his quizzes were impossible to answer correctly, and when I spoke with him about my grade, he told me to be happy with a B. Take Kasprisin.

he is horrible!!! The only way you will get an A is if you have had exposure to the material already. You have to know every single gritty detail to do well on the quizzes and his lectures SUCK. Coming to class is a waste of time and reading the book will earn you the same grade. horrible!!
