There's 7 pop quizzes, 2 midterms, a final, and an insect collection. You have to go out and catch 20 bugs belonging to different orders, pin them, and label them. It was very time consuming and took a lot of work. The pop quizzes were hard; read the chapter before class and review the slides so you can do good on the quizzes.

Dr. Perring is amazing! Makes class super interesting and has such a passion for insects. Lots of memorization but super easy to learn and memorize. Highly recommend

Awesome professor! You'd probably won't enjoy his class if you don't like memorizing. He makes the class very interesting. He has a very peppy voice so it's pretty easy to pay attention. Averages were good, 77-80 %. Shows that the class is very easy

Good intro class into Entomology for anyone interested in it. I wasn't sure if I was set for sure on this major, but his class helped solidify my choice. He makes an effort to be a good teacher; he remembers your name, make information accessible and somehow even makes everyone laugh in those brutal 8ams.

Dr. Perring teaches well, but his exams make absolutely no sense. His multiple choice questions are extremely tricky, and he does not allow enough time to complete his exams. The exams make up at least 95% of a student's grade, which is not fair to the people who struggle with text anxiety. This class is not great for people who cannot memorize.

Six years later, and I am still regretting taking Dr. Perring's class. I had to learn the hard way that I am just really bad at entomology. He thinks that I am a lazy student, but the truth is that I struggled in his class. All of his exams are multiple-choice, but he does not ask questions clearly nor does he give us enough time to finish them.

I put in a ton of work in this class, but came up short on the final. So I got a B+. I'm taking 21 units this quarter, and this was the only class keeping me from a 4.0. He doesn't curve, and you need a 94% in the class to get an A. If I knew I would get a B+ I wouldn't have taken this class even though I enjoyed it so much. I'm very sad :(.

Dr. Perring tries to convey the information well, but his vagueness makes it difficult to understand the concepts. He is a really tough grader because he only gives out 2 (TWO) points of extra credit (which is not a lot considering the fact that his class is out of 400 points). Overall, a terrible experience, and I would never take him again EVER

Comment:
Dr. Perring is a professor who has demands that are unrealistic. His exams ask questions that are extremely specific. It was also hard to distinguish between correct and nearly correct answers on his multiple choice exams. It is true that the exams are all scantron tests, but this class is not for people who struggle with multiple choice exams.

I thought that taking Dr. Perring's class would be a joy because I enjoyed my regular Biology class in high school. Unfortunately, I had to learn the hard way that my high school science classes did NOT prepare for me for the intensity of Dr. Perring's entomology class. I now have doubts about the quality of my secondary education because of him.

One of the best and easiest classes I've taken. Those who are complaining about hard tests and terrible teaching DO NOT KNOW TERRIBLE TEACHERS! He is seriously one of the best at UCR. Study and go to class (that shouldn't have to be said, but apparently it need to be said) and you are good.

Nearly four years have passed since I took a class with him. I must admit that his class taught me nothing valuable towards life. Sure, it's great to learn about cockroaches, butterflies, and moths in a university-level class, but overall the class is pretty pointless. English literature taught me more about life than whatever Perring taught me.

He teaches the "Natural History of Insects" course. This class should really be known as the "history class that no one will ever care about even if insects are wiped off the face of the Earth." This class is completely useless. Sure, students will learn about the various bugs that are in the world around us, but does anyone really even care?

Out of all of the classes I took at UCR, this was the worst. Perring teaches the material well, but his tests are so convoluted that they are impossible to finish in a timely manner. He also thinks he's so great, but I can tell that a lot of the reviews written ten years ago were written by him. Never take this class if you care about your GPA!

For the fiftieth review for Dr. Perring, allow me to elaborate on his class. The tests are ridiculously long and complicated. He only gives you around thirty minutes to answer around a hundred questions. He uses a word bank that is so confusing that the most that can be accomplished is one question per minute. He just does not know how to test!

This class is actually pretty easy, but you do have to attend lecture, he uses clickers for attendance. He gives study guides which state everything that you will be tested on he even gives definitions. I really loved this class favorite at UCR so far. There is a lot of memorization but if you study a week before any exam you should do fine.
