Had him for Modern Philosophy. He was a hard grader. You must be prepared to do A LOT OF READING and get confused a lot. If you keep up with the reading and study hard for the 2 exams, you'll get a good grade. Make sure to definitely ask a lot of questions if you're unsure!!

Best teacher I've ever had. It's really too bad that he's leaving Rutgers for NYU.

Maudlin is awesome. One of the smartest professors at RU. Very hard grader, but you learn a lot. He makes you feel like a complete dumba** when he grades your papers. Very funny to see his comments. Trying to win an argument with him is nearly impossible. Probably not a good class for non-phi majors.

Weird but a good teacher. He can get impatient (he had office hours in au bon pain for public humiliation) but he does explain things really well. Your essays/exams must demonstrate knowledge of his lectures as well as the readings (or else). But that's ok because his philosophical criticisms are actually substantive.

This was an intro class and I expected it to be challenging but not impossible. Many people in my class felt hopeless because though he was an engaging professor, he often became disgruntled if we didn't understand everything in the reading and standards for exams are so friggin hard. (coming from an otherwise excellent student).

One of my best professors so far. He always answers questions in class until students can clearly understand it (although it kills time for people who do). His classes are good and explain everything. You can breeze through class w/false sense of security (no quiz/hw), but if you don't know your material/know logic, he will rip apart your exam.

I graduated from Rutgers about 12 years ago and I think it's awesome this guy is still teaching. Professor Maudlin was by far my favorite professor of all time. In fact, I started taking philosophy classes for the sole reason that he was teaching them - I didn't even care what the subject matter was! This guy clearly comes HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! I don't think you'll find another professor as engaging and excited about the subject than Maudlin. Rock on!!
