Comment:
Professor McGary is a terrible professor. He is so disorganized and assigns readings but does not discuss them at all. He puts his personal opinion over other's; therefore, he grades harsher and assigns grades that are lower than one deserves. He also gives crappy excuses for giving low grades. Please avoid him at all costs he will ruin ur GPA!

Comment:
Really convoluted lectures, during which he constantly strays from the topic at hand. Extremely difficult and nitpicky graderdoesn't really care about your own views but wants you to know every last detail of the one you're writing about. (And this is coming from a 4.0 philosophy major.) Overall, tedious and too tough.

Great guy but not an enjoyable class. If you aren't highly interested in philosophy, do not take. Classes consist of him talking...a lot. There is an inclass debate but other than that, there isn't much variety in the routine of classes. No tests other than the final which seemed awesome at first but causes a lot of stress before the final.

3 easy papers. Must go to class. Very unclear with lectures and just writes words on the bored without connecting them. He has bad handwriting. I wouldn't recommend him for this class unless you are actually interested in philosophy. Final exam is going to be really difficult if you don't understand what is happening in class. Not multiple choice

A gentleman and a great teacher. Makes sure you understand each concept clearly and lets you know what is going to be on tests. Class discussion is encouraged and essential. A fair grader who is trying to give you the best grade possible as opposed to having the whole class pull for a C. Would recommend to anyone interested in socioeconomic issues

Literally a world class mind. Fantastic professor to boot. Students should consider themselves lucky to be able to say they once studied under Howard McGary.

This professor has left a positive mark in my life forever. I absolutely love his suppositions to explain philosophical theories and the questions he poses that leave you wondering what the right/morally correct answer would be. Highly recommend his courses

Have him for an Intro class. Ridiculously smart, but tends to refer to ideas unknown to most undergrads. Seems to expect his students to have absolutely no difficulty comprehending any of the centuries old philosophy texts. Lectures are very Unorganized. Says "what" and "Right?" almost every other word making him super difficult to listen to.

McGary is helpful and his lectures are very clear. Although the lectures seem monotonous, McGary makes every effort to incorporate his student's opinions into the debates. I would advise that McGary's courses are not easy though. While I think a B is manageable you certainly need to work. His courses are not easy as others have suggested.

McGary is a very helpful professor. I didn't buy the suggested texts he told us to buy and I still managed a B. All you need to do is come to class and take notes. All his exams you can get good grades as long as you pay attention and take notes.

Don't need to read for the class, just try your best to take good notes. Lectures are pretty disorganized, just writes words on the board so make sure to listen up and copy down whatever he says. Midterm/final are all open-ended. He also requires a 7-8 page term paper. If you don't like writing, I would not recommend this class.

He wasnt actually bad, but he was just so damn uninteresting. If you are a REAL philosophy major, don't take this course, it was pretty much full of really opinionated PoliSci majors. This class was just the worst type of philosophy; very wishy-washy and barely intellectual. If you enjoy a class of memorizing, taxonomy and locke, take this.

He's a great professor. His lectures are clear with interesting examples. He continually reviews prior course material to make sure you have the connections and understanding. He is helpful and also responsive to e-mails and making office appointments. He had a good selection of readings. I enjoyed the class.

If your interested in change, expanding your mind then take his class!!!!! If you aren't interested in really learning and just trying to get a degree, then he probably will

class would have been fascinating with any other professor; i found myself leaving the class in disgust due to his saying "right?" after every other word. i can't imagine how a speech pattern could be more annoying. also you don't study any

Well, he says right a lot. His lectures aren't very organized... he just kinda scribbles random words on the board. TA's are good, however. Pay attention to them and you'll learn. Class is a chore to sit through, though. Just sign in and leave.

says "right" to the point that it is a speech impediment. class is not difficult but boring to sit through unless u like to ask questions. lecture lacks direction and his examples are absurd but hilarious.
