I have had Prof. Opiela three times, he teaches economics like it is a story making it really easy to remember the content. The key is- you need to pay attention and come to class. He gives you all the tools to succeed in the class.

We had a take home exam for the final and midterm was done in class, the class was very quick so few examples were provided and we had a lot of topics to study in one month, and the class was 100% math, the exams were almost 8 pages and were different from class lectures. Private tutor is a must.

He is cynical and pessimistic. Spends too much time criticizing other Depaul professors like Mike Miller and Daniel Heiser (public slander). The role of an academic is to be uplifting and inspiring he is anything but that.

Econ profs often get a bad wrap because for a lot of students - myself included - econ is hard. But if you have to take eco, take it with Opiela. He's a very endearing/quirky character, augments lectures with great stories, curves exams, and cares a lot about his students understanding (came in on the weekends for review, offered extra resources).

The bad reviews sound nothing like the professor I had. Mr. Opiela's class will give any econ major/minor a strong foundation to work with going forward. Thorough lectures with content explained clearly. Not an easy class, but you're going to school to learn not just receive and easy grade. I would absolutely take again.

Tim Opiela is the worse professor I have had in my life. He tells these crappy stories and often gets off tracks. As a student you don't know when you should listen or when to block him out. Do not take this professor! He is a horrible instructor and likes to ridicule students. A total jerk!

This teacher loves to mock at his students whenever he gets a chance. While he has taught the subject for almost 25 years, he does not seem to move with the times and teach any real world examples. Just adding a twist of his own to the book is all he is good at. Anyone serious to acquire practical knowledge will not gain anything from his class.

Clear and engaging lectures. Easy grader. Two papers, which have clear guidelines to help you write, and article summaries, which no one reads.

He makes anyone loves economic and he has a special way to drag your attention to him all the time. There is no question that he cannot answer and he is willing to repeat himself as many as you ask all he wants that you understand the subject. He is awesome and I diffentely want to have him again.

Very tough tests of which your entire graded is hinged on. Homework is not reflective of tests, moreso inclass problems. If you do not follow every word during class, you won't pass. Worst grade I got in the MBA program. Had all A's before I took him.

He's very bright, and you will certainly learn a lot in his course. If you're looking to learn a lot about the subject, take his course. If you're looking to have a nice GPA on your resume, avoid his course at all costs. I had straight A's in my MBA program until I took his course. Blew me off several times for office hour appointments..

Difficult class. Grade is solely based on tests. Would have preferred more relevant homework assignments to make the tests less of a surprise. True, nothing you see on the test isn't anything that wasn't discussed in class, but you could also read the entire textbook and say the same thing. Funny lectures and a very nice man.

All about the lectures and the notes you take. Get a good nights sleep, do some jumping jacks, and bring coffee/red bull to prepare for the intense 150 min. of complex lecture that the exams are entirely based on. Within 24 hours review and add to your notes to make sure you understand all concepts. Don't need a the book. Tests are on thinking.

One of the best professors I have had at DePaul. Explanations clear, relates theory to real world. His enthusiasm for economics is contagious. Knows all our names in two weeks. Calls on people and keeps them on their toes I would highly recommend Opiela.

The class is hard, a lot of information, a lot of studying! The explanation during the class is not always clear. Mid-term and final are really tough, book is not helpful at all, only his lectures and handouts can help prepare. Class average was C. I'd better recommend someone else for this class.
