I LOVED his class, even looked forward to it. I took this class because it was interesting, but you have to pay attention, ask questions, that's what he's there for. He loves to engage w/ the students & we laughed even. I'd recommend Dr. Fitzgibbons to anyone wanting to really LEARN Astronomy. He cares about his students & wants them to learn.

Dr. Fitzgibbons is an excellent teacher, and his classes are fun. But you really need to read on your own and study. I had to work to get my C.

Comment:

Super smart professor, what makes his class very hard for a basic course. You NEED to listen his lectures-quite monotone- and don't skip class and study hard in order to at least get a C in his tests. Barely use the text book, all he use is his PowerPoint. Actually I never bought the textbook.

Comment:

Dr. Fitzgibbons is one of the smartest people you will ever meet. With that being said, he is overqualified to teach an intro to astronomy class. He definitely knows his stuff, however, the material is really tough. A lot of physics, math, history, etc. By far the hardest class I have ever taken. Utilize his office hours for help!

I took this class because I thought it would be really interesting. Yeah, I was completely wrong. He speaks in the same monotone voice the entire class. He doesn't really do any review for the exams either. He then assigned homework, and an online quiz due the same day as one of the exams. Stay away from him if you can.

I thought this would be the best class I will ever take. It was the hardest. He is boring, and also the way he words his test will confuse you. Nothing from the book is in the test either. I withdrew from his class, to protect my GPA.

I'm actually sitting in this class while I'm doing this. He's super boring. He literally just lectures the entire class, with his monotone voice. He made me lose my interest in Oceanography. Take a different teacher. The field trip was fun, though.

This Professor was very passionate about oceanography, but hes exams didn't really line up with his lectures so I found it easier just to read the book and not really pay attention in class. He was very boring and not very clear, because of the following, his voice make you want to sleep. all together I wouldn't take him again.

I took this astronomy class on Wednesday nights, and for 3 hours straight he would talk and his words blurred together after an hour(it was boring). He is a very nice person, not a very helpful professor though. He doesn't interact with students and he doesn't make you feel smart. It was interesting at first, but then it got really overwhelming.

this professor is not good at explaining details at all his notes as well as book information is hardly on the test he keeps his class very confused I loved astronomy before I took this class but he made the class so boring with no real clarity it kind of left a bad test in my mouth

When first going to the class he made it seem like fun and then the first test came and everything he was teaching was not on the test. Also he is not very good when it come to answering questions, he makes you feel stupid. I have never taken and AST class and I thought it would be fun... Don't take him in an AST class!

He's a dork! But he is super into Oceanography and that kinda keeps me interested during his boring and monotone lectures! I'm in his OCE class now Fall 2011 and he's a nice guy! He even answers the idiots questions from the very back of the room!

At first, I thought for sure I would love this class,a few weeks went by, and we took the first test. What we learned in class and the homework we did was not useful on the test. The rest of the class was the same. He expects you to know the answers to his questions without explaining. Read the book, you'll learn more of what might be on the test.

This teacher really loves Oceanography but can be kinda confusing. I took all the notes and studied for the tests but still couldn't seem to pass all of them. I got A's on all the other assignments and the big field trip ( which by the way, took 2 hours to get to). Overall, I would not take him again:(

Excellent teacher. He teaches a real college level class. The goof-offs in class gave him a bad rating because they weren't paying attention. The students who paid attention and asked questions and participated in the demos had no problems on the tests.
