Worst Professor. He doesn't remember anything about the class. He doesn't use canvas. No assignments. No slides given. He doesn't show our grades to keep track of anything. Just grades based on couple of useless tests and project work and special topic report. The project work is also pretty random. Waste of money and time.

Course content is not good enough. No assignments or projects based on Hadoop/spark etc. He spends time teaching R language, which can be learned by a Master's student on his own through assignments/projects. Daily presentations consumes most of the time. Attendance matters when it comes to grading. Overall, not recommended.

We got a chance to learn big data technologies like R, Cassandra, and Python. We learned a lot through the project and research paper writing. It was an interactive learning class. I would recommend the class to others.

Un-predictable grades and randomly takes attendance in class. No learning at all in the class. Has in-class assignments. Presentation-heavy class with NO learning at all. He keeps forgetting stuff and it is difficult to understand what he wants to communicate.

I got an internship because of this course. I could answer a lot of BI related questions during the interview, especially regarding my project. I finally got the internship. Prof. Yu's teaching style is different and he encourages you to self study and present slides which boosts your knowledge. I am very glad I took the course and recommend it.

Exposes students to cutting-edge technologies like Spark, Cassandra, R , Scala, Zeppelin etc. Tasks like exploring new technology, building something out of it, and presenting to class with question-answers is a great way to not only learn tools but present it and make improvements(chance to b creative) . Great prof! Enjoyable lectures!

Comment:
What he teaches makes no sense! He asked us to code in Scala when the whole class didn't know Scala nor did he teach in class. There was no teaching at all. Very confused all the time. Keeps forgetting. Speaks nonsense. Totally useless. Course turned out a headache as we didn't know what to do. He was never clear about it :(

Friendly professor. Hard to stay awake sometimes due to the mumbling. Easy to pass the class if you're good at remembering lists, flowcharts, and diagrams. Instructions get confusing sometimes; not always sure what is expected during assignments and had to ask for clarification many times. Team project was fun (mix of different majors). Got an A.

One of the most easy going professors I have come across. He is extremely helpful, gives easy midterm and final papers & relevant assignments. He gives ample opportunities to make up your grade. He personally takes feedback on his teaching methods and works on continuously improving them. The Project can be a toughie, but will go well in the end.

Very nice and helping professor. Was able to learn C# in his class Project. Sometimes he says something and does something (in project and in exams) He says he will not be including some slides for exam but he will include and tells i mentioned that these slides will be included for exam. But then grading is good.

He has a very postive attitude and is extremely understanding. Very knowledgeable about the systems software. This course gave a good hands-on experience on the .Net architecture. Must have good C# and DB knowledge. One of the best professors I've known so far in sjsu.
