I grew confident in essay writing in his class. He sticks to the point; in essays give support & quotes. His lectures are summaries & main points of the books we read. Take notes in class & find quotes to supplement the characterization and themes (to help prep/write essays). Ask q's & participate every other week; it'll help you to focus in class.

A lot of reading if you're taking a 12-15+ unit load. Mostly poetry in the textbook so you can google that. If you don't do the reading, Dr. Wilson has thorough though sometimes boring lectures, mostly because of his delivery and tone. No tests, only essays and they're almost all online and open note. Interesting points/essay prompts.

Super easy class to pass. He gives lectures, which will be used for later online tests. But, you can totally pass the class without even reading the books as long as you show up and pay attention to the lectures. But even if you don't show up to class, the tests are open book and notes. Super easy class and would recommend him over other Professors

take him! Lots of reading, but u can totally get away without reading at all if u just go to class and take good notes. That being said, attendance isn't mandatory. His lectures are actually entertaining and he doesn't waste time talking about boring, irrelevant stuff. No tests, just papers, and they're all open note, outside of class, emailed.

He's not bad overall. Although he gives good information and tries to be funny, lectures are incredibly boring. Essays are clear and easy, if you did the reading. DO NOT BOTHER with buying the main textbook, all he assigns are a bunch of poems easily found online, you just miss the wonderful Norton annotations. DEFINITELY buy the novels, though.

Very nice person and helpful when you ask, but he repeats himself too often. I felt like we had the same lecture two weeks in a row. He never calls on people when he asks questions, he just expects people to answer. There were many awkward silences when he asked questions, so try to participate in class. He tries to be funny sometimes. Easy class.

Professor Wilson is amazing. I have been lucky enough to have him for multiple classes and he is one of the most relaxed and funniest professors I have ever had. He makes even the most mundane novels funny and he is always there to talk when you need him. He's lax and his classes are always a joy to be in. You rock professor!!!!!! #BestProfessor!!!

During my semester he failed half the class and the other half passed with grades lower than a B. There were no A's. No matter how good you try on your essays, you will only get a C or lower. I was one of the 3 from my ENGL 1A to get an A from my class but when I got to his class for 1B, I didn't stand a chance for getting even a C+.

DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS. Prof Wilson is an extremely hard grader and he told the class at the beginning that everyone averages C. I am an A and a few Bs student and cant believe that all my papers written were of C quality. He canceled a few classes and had us write timed essays remotely. He is not clear on his grading. Dont think I learned anything!

I did enjoyed the poems, literature selected and the in-class discussions. However, he does grade harshly and comments are often illegible. There's little communication outside of class time, getting answers to e-mails is unpredictable. If you are organized and self-sufficient to find answers elsewhere, you'll do o.k., just don't expect an A.

SOOO BORING. Rambles and rambles til the class is over. Grades way too hard. Nobody in the class has gotten higher than a C on a paper. Unfair grading. Rude and insulting on his results of an essay. I do NOT recommend.

He's a sweet guy who is always up for a good discussion. He knows a lot about the books he teaches, and almost always has stories about each of them. If you get to, you should take his class!

I enjoyed this class. It was a ton of reading and the class lectures were some-what dry, but he has a good sense of humor and is an easy grader. If you don't mind a lot of reading and want to maintain your GPA I would recommend him.

Comment:
He is constantly bickering with students who question his assignments. He stops class whenever there is a disruption (which is frequent) and spends 20-30 minutes arguing instead of teaching. He seems uninterested in teaching, bored and tired all of the time. His grading is questionable at best and his comments on papers or tests are rarely helpful.

Pretty difficult if you don't read or pay attention in class. However, his personal stories are just top-notch and will send you off laughing. Otherwise, pretty bland and boring material to read...his interjections make them bearable.

Professor Wilson is very knowledgeable about the British and Irish novels and he gives a lot of good notes. He would tell funny stories to try to keep the energy going. The class itself was very boring and long. He assigned way too many books assigned. There were 2 papers, a midterm, and final.

Knowledgeable & articulate, but appears tired & unmotivated. Seems to not want to be there. Still, had some great insights into the novels we read. Also funny and had some great stories. Needs to add variety to lectures w/discussion groups, etc. Assigned 10 novels ? too many for a semester, also too many obscure novels, nudging out some classics

Eng. 1B is not Dr. Wilson's favorite class. He shows up but not much more. Shame since writing is primal need at college level. Was unreachable in initial weeks. Fact that his SJSU ph. # was incorrect wasn't important to him. In a word, indifferent. Essay commentary is minimal. Lets class out after 2/3 elapsed time. His T.A. needed experience.
