These comments are harsh, ouch. I didn't find her too bad. She's not as "fun" as some of my other language profs, and she has high expectations. You have to work hard if you want to do well, and look over the textbook before class bcos her lessons will be based on it. Not an easy A, for sure, but it pays off when you get one from her!

she does not know how to teach. possibly one of the worst teachers that i've ever had. she is rude. quite ignorant of the students and never accepts another perspective. as said in other comments, DON'T TAKE THIS COURSE, EVER.

DO NOT TAKE HER CLASS! She is rude to students and makes you feel stupid if you ask a question. She doesn't know how to teach. My GPA is significantly affected by her biased and subjective marking. She is a very hard marker and many people are close to failing class. I regret taking FREN 122. All of the students are complaining about her.

Crazy teacher. She is very difficult to follow, kind of mean, but a good teacher (if you must learn portuguese). So ya, don't take this unless you HAVE to. she teaches only European Portugues, not Brazillian portuguese. Being a Latin American studies major I found her course pretty useless as Brazilian portuguese is a way different.

Ive never experienced a prof this bad. The dept needs to review her performance ASAP. Creates a learning environment of fear and intimidation, seeks to rule/control the class (comes at the expense of engaging with students) & shows no real interest in why ppl dont want to talk in class. Instead berates incessantly. Not an effective teaching method.

Please do yourself a favour and avoid this professor. Try Vallerino or Duggan, both amazing profs. This prof intimidates and discourages students while the above encourage students and make classes a pleasure to attend.

Quite rude,not a (good) teacher.Is highly unclear on her assignments and expectations,changes things around a lot during the course of a term.Has expectations from students she herself cannot fulfill.Says she wants to improve her teaching but does nothing about it (not while I was there).Horrible WASTE OF TIME! She's pretty rude. She is quite intimidating when it comes to teaching, which discourages students from wanting to learn the language. I've seen her taunt students unnecessarily. Keep up with the readings and you'll do fine, but if you're not prepared, even if you usually are most of the time, she'll be very unforgiving. Not suited for teaching.

I promised myself to try my hardest to stick with her Portuguese class because I was really interested... and ended up taking the "W" and leaving. She's rude, gives all directions in Port. & wont clarify, is completely unforgiving, expects previous experience w/Port., & will yell at you in front of the class if your accent isn't up to her standard.

Thanks to this stupid prof, I GOT MY FIRST "W" IN MY LIFE AND IN 4 YEARS OF UBC! She is like not going to teach you anything but give hard time to student. 13 out of 30 student dropped out.
