Love him as a person, but not as a professor. He is a sweet old man. Entire lecture is him deriving equations from other equations. Hard to focus, but he takes attendance very seriously and will curve your grade b/c of it. 3 tests and a final. First test was easy, but I never studied more in my life for the other 2 (& I took 2 yrs of phy in HS)

In all my time at UM, he was def. my favorite professor. Wasn't a fan at first, but he's an amazing and kind man who we all grew to love. You learn physics HIS WAY, which you'll appreciate later. Exams based on hw/notes/old exams. You have to UNDERSTAND the material! I got an A with that strategy. As he would say: Don't worry Young Person!

Professor Alexandrakis has a great sense of humor and must really enjoy his job to be at it for this long. He genuinely cares for his students. The material is not easy to pick up immediately and requires time. But if you understand the notes, homework, and past test questions and you'll be fine. I strongly recommend this professor.

Comment:
Terrible instructor! He says he wants participation student, but when we answer questions correctly, he does not acknowledge the answer. When we answer questions wrong, he calls us stupid. When we don't answer for fear of getting it wrong, he yells at us for being lazy and not understanding the material, even though he doesn't effectively teach it.

Great Guy, thick accent, but not too hard to understand. The material is kind of difficult but Alexandrakis trys to make things simplier, he is there for help if you need it. overall a good professor, one of the best in the physics department, if you have him as a choice go with him over anyone else!

Alexandrakis derives equations and explains concepts well. The homeworks are short and helpful. He wants you to do well. His in-class demonstrations and sense of humor make the class fun. Make sure to follow everything he does in his lectures, do the homeworks, read the textbook, and you'll be happy with your grade.

This man likes talking about tuition money and where the beef is. If that helps. Regardless, I almost changed my major because of Dr. Nearing, but Dr. Alexandrakis made me enjoy physics again. He's more practical, does demonstrations in class, and the exams are based more on practical aspects instead of the dry calculus bit Nearing favors.

Alexandrakis is a very nice person. The problem with the physics department is that they do not go over problems in class, they just derive formulas and expect you to solve problems on your own. Discussion class sucked cause we only did hw problems which were rarely on the test. I think this class was hard, especially the final. hw is mandatory.

The problem with ppl and physics is that they coast through highschool looking for ways to do as little as possible. This man has a PhD from the IVY League and worked w/ Einstein. They don't tell you what to learn because you are supposed to learn it all. He is a nice guy and always willing to help. Very funny. Do the practice tests and your fine.

One of the best PHY prof. here. Accent is tough, but is often funny in class and demos are cool. Problem is, he uses the same method as the other PHY profs: teach over our heads and skip steps, assuming that we will learn how to actually apply the theory to solving the probs. and tests on our own. One disc. period dedicated to probs. is not enough.

Alexandrakis is definately the best professor I've had at UMiami. It depends on your style, though; if you're a premed and you just want to get an A and move right along, then Alexandrakis might be less than interesting. But if you're genuinely curious a
