Steinberg is a very educated person on this topic but his lectures are very long and dry and aren't really required for the class to be honest. Vietnam War on Film grade was based on 3 papers (that focused on the movies and reading materials) and section attendanceparticipation.

Comment:

The Vietnam on Film class was my favorite class of my college career. Prof. Steinberg is incredibly knowledgeable onthe subject and offers a complete understanding of one of the most important foreign entanglements in US history. You will learn! And you will enjoy doing it! And you watch movies! Take this class!

Allen is a cool guy, who has an outstandingly liberal approach to the Vietnam War. His lectures are always interwoven with some humor, so pay attention. Not to mention, he is dead sexy for an older guy.

Allen is SUCH a great speaker. The lectures get long on days when movies aren't shown, but the movies are AWESOME, too. GREAAAAAT class. I would recommend it to anyone. I didn't know/like anything too modern (like Vietnam War) but now I'm in love with the era.

I liked this class. Steinberg really presented the material in an interesting way. Movies are good, as well as most of the readings--not too dry, either. there are only 3 assignments--3 papers. They are somewhat hard but do-able

Comment:

Mixed feelings on this class. First the good- Steinberg is incredibly helpful outside of class, he is passionate about the subject, he is very interesting and the movies are pretty good. The Bad- It's 2 hrs. 30 mins long which drove me crazy after taking notes for an hour and a half,reading are kinda dull.

Sometimes the lectures get long and boring, although that is more a reflection of class time than his lecturing abilities. He's actually a pretty good lecturer. Assignments are pretty standard for this type of course thus far. Overall not too bad. Just don't schedule any classes before or after this one...it's 2 and a half hours.

Prof. Steinberg is an absolutely amazing professor, the best one I've had at this university. He is interesting to listen to and extremely knowledgable and passionate about his subject. He is very helpful especially if you go to his office hours. Great professor and awesome class!!!!

He's an amazing professor, truly brilliant, and unafraid to say what he thinks. Everyone should take one of his classes, you'll love him or hate him (not recommended for right-wingers/conservatives unless you want to get pissed off, but it's still fun)

At first comes off as dull in class but if you talk to him on your own in office you see how nice he is and how excited and passionate he is about history. He is also challenging, but that is a good thing, he was the first history prof. to make me think

The most worthless prof I had at Iowa. I wanted my refund of the money I spent wasting my time on the class. He's totally biased and boring to listen to, the class however was really interesting due to his TA, Megan.
