Comment:
Very boring class with tons of assigned readings. Doesn't seem to care much about what you have to say- interrupts your answer, is often pompous. The one good thing going is that he clearly loves his subject and is very knowledgable about it.

He talks so much because he knows a lot about Hartford. He is very flaky. Always keeps you about 10 min past the end of class. In the class I had with him, he looked at our schedules to know we didn't have class after so he could keep us extra. He is a nice guy but gives a ton of reading and then wants to know obscure things about the reading.

Comment:
This class is extremely boring... he honestly just likes listening to himself talk. As far as course work goes, a few papers and quizzes, which you can retake. The reading is overwhelming, I suggest skimming. Try to take good notes in class so you can give his own words right back to him on the papers...

Professor Walsh enjoys hearing himself talk, but don't let that turn you off. He's a good professor and very accessible. He wants to help you, even though he seems a bit standoffish. His classes can be interesting from time to time, but get reading for some long ones too! It's great to have somebody in the class who actually does the reading!

He likes to hear himself talk, which makes class very hard to get through. The class isn't too hard though, just a few papers and quizzes which he lets you retake. There are a LOT of readings to do outside of class, but they're not completely mandatory. Just skim and you'll be fine.

Man loves to talk. Class is just straight lecture. Started the semester actually doing the reading, but started just skimming them and getting by with a few comments in class. No tests, just papers. Kinda of an easy grader.

Great class in my opinion. Lectures and readings were very informative. Teacher was more knowledgeable on the subject than I thought possible. There was a lot of work for a 200 level class, but the grading wasn't too harsh. If anyone talks badly about this class, they didn't pay attention or do the readings (which unfortunately was very common).

He thinks he is the smartest man alive, which makes him seem like a jerk a first; he really cares and is a smart guy though; one of my best teachers, although I didnt realize it at the time

I'm glad to see Prof Walsh finished his PhD awhile back becase I never knew how to salute him and "dude" didn't work. In my view, he teaches the most boring topics other than the history of music, yet I did well, stayed awake and still know what homoosious means. The classes were my smallest when I took them which was good.

Smart, perceptive, and quick. Lectures are meant more to inspire critical thinking than spoon-feed information, and that's why some might find his presentation "unfocused". Extremely witty and with a true sense of irony. Grading is not too tough.

Not a good religion teacher. good intentions, but very bland lecturer. smart, but not very good talker. grade arbitrary, assignments prove nothing. very unclear w/ assignments. but its an easy grade, reading not required. okay, but not great

Well, at first I was frankly a little distraught and didn't know what to think of Walsh. After you get to know him, he's not bad. HIGHLY intelligent and knonws his stuff, but he tends to turn a good portion of his lectures into a closed conversation in which he rambles on and on for a long time. B

His lectures tend to be unfocused and a bit rambling, and he focuses altogether too much on Hartford. He may or may not show up for class on time, and forget about scheduling meetings with him, because the odds are he won't be there. Don't waste your time with Cities.
